More About This Book

Overview

Dear President Bush,

My name is Kimberly Anne Muse. I am writing this letter not for me but for my father, Kurt Frederick Muse. As you should know by now, he is a political prisoner in Panama. .

Born in the United States and raised in Panama, Kurt Muse grew up with a deep love for his adopted country. But the crushing regime of General Manuel Noriega in the late 1980s threatened his, and a nation's, freedom. A nightmare of murder and unexplained disappearances compelled Kurt and a few trusted friends to begin a clandestine radio campaign, urging the people of Panama to rise up for their basic human rights.

Six Minutes to Freedom is the remarkable tale of Kurt Muse's arrest and harrowing months of imprisonment; his eyewitness accounts of torture; and the plight of his family as they fled for their lives. It is also the heart—pounding account of the only American civilian ever rescued by the elite Delta Force. Timelier than ever, this is a thrilling and highly personal narrative about one man's courage and dedication to his beliefs.

"A cliffhanger drama of survival against all odds."
—Jeffery Deaver

"A dramatic portrayal of idealism, courage, integrity, and fortitude."
—John Douglas and Mark Olshaker

"A must—read for anyone interested in how Delta Force operates."
—John Weisman

"Harrowing, entertaining, inspiring, and very, very readable."
—Col. Lee A. Van Arsdale, U. S. Army Special Forces (Ret)

"A thrilling chronicle that puts a human face on unspeakable actions."
—Continental magazine

    friends fighting for freedom

'six minutes to freedom' is the amazing true story of kurt muse who was born in america but raised in panama and he and his friends defied the dictator and were being chased by the secret police for broadcasting pro demomocracy airwaves to the panamanian people. the freedom fighters always had to hide the radios and talk in code so the secret police could not find them at the last minute kurt muse had one or 2 close calls and was captured in one of the prisons and was the american commandos rescued him and it was a very moving memoir that gave him alot of freedom for his neibors and friends and he really gave alot for himself and risked his life and it also showed what a special group the commandos were to rescue someone and this person kurt muse brought freedom to panama. he and his friends risked there lifes and prison to get freedom on the airwaves so the panamanan people could learn about democracy and freedom. this book really shows you what freedom is all about and makes you really apprieate it alittle deeper and our armed forces alittle more.

Don't let the cover fool you, this is a Clancy-esque non-fiction story that's not just about Special OPS!

Authors Muse and Gilstrap have made clear criticisms of the political and military failures of U.S. administrations and the CIA in Panama. That being said, the sins of previous leadership eventually have to be fixed, 1989 was as good a time as any! The story reads like a Clancy novel sans a volume of technical data. I couldn't set it down, selfishly burying myself in it for the better part of two days. Muse's story is inspiring in all the right places: spiritually, patriotically, and emotionally. The recent Military Channel special about this operation was interesting, but only as a 'Cliff's notes' version of the book. Stories of Central American politics seldom catch my interest, on recommendation of a friend I found the book quite enjoyable. REVIEW EVERY BOOK YOU READ, AUTHORS DESERVE AND GENERALLY APPRECIATE YOUR OPINIONS!

We can change the world with a little help from our friends.

I found this book to be the story of a simple man, like you and I, that toppled a government. This is the modern version of my favorite childhood book about the little train that could. No one must have told Kurt Muse that he could not overthrow a government. Kurt is my 'HERO'. Every parent should make this required reading in their home.

Should be required reading in schools

Six Minutes is an illustration of what Freedom is worth to individuals, of how the United States is supposed to act in the defense of liberty and how far it will go in saving one life to promote freedom. It is also an illustration of what good writing, and storytelling is all about. John Gilstrap and Kurt Muse tell a story that is timeless, and touching and as adrenaline pumping as any thriller. This is a story of why we should all be proud of who we are as a nation and how our leaders and the military can put the red tape aside and back up what we say with perfectly pitched, well-coordinated deeds. This is what herorism is all about at every level of this epic and true story. If this book doesn't make you proud to be an American, nothing will.
