From the Newbery-award winning author of Holes

When Laura Sibbie starts a secret club at school, makes the other members them give her something totally embarrassing as "insurance," to make sure they don't tell anyone else about the club. She promises to keep the insurance secret, unless someone blabs. Gabriel, who never tells on anybody, would be a perfect member of Pig City. He wants to join, too. But when Laura asks him, something goes terribly wrong. Now there are two secret clubs in Mr. Doyle's class, and guess who's the head of the new one-Gabriel! Each club is determined to topple the other, and nobody's secrets are safe.

Publishers Weekly - Publisher's Weekly
The author of There's a Boy in the Girls' Bathroom shows how easy it is for one secret to become a catacomb of secretssome harmful, some harmlesseven when no one has intended them to go so far. Laura has hair down to there that is the envy of the sixth grade girls and admired by one boyGabriel. She starts a club called Pig City; members offer their own secrets as ``insurance'' against their telling anyone else of the club's existence. A rival club springs upMonkey Townand soon there are so many secrets that it looks as if their teacher, Mr. Doyle, will have to take drastic measures. Sachar has created a bunch of kids and worries that are quite real; his witty, well-paced story shows off his impeccable ear for classroom banter. Ages 9-12. (September)
School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-6 Laura's below-the-waist hair and her spirited personality have earned her a leadership role among classmates and the secret worship of Gabriel. She starts a secret club called ``Pig City'' and begins a covert chalkboard writing campaign featuring ``pig'' words. In an effort to win Laura's attention, Gabriel sends a note, which jealous Sheila intercepts and changes. When Laura reads the now insulting letter, the battle begins. Eventually a rival club, Monkey Town, is formed. Warfare begins with silly pranks but soon escalates into ugly and destructive acts, culminating when Sheila and a friend sabotage Laura and cut her hair. The sheared Laura sees how foolish they've been, and the truth of Gabriel's affection comes to light. Laura's instant maturity may be a bit too rapid, given her stubbornness and intense pride, but overall, characters and their actions are realistic, uncomfortably so. The plot is predictable, and the writing style is just adequate, but the situations presented are on-target. The humor, frequent dialogue, and brief chapters make this suitable for reluctant readers. I recommend this book to someone 10 to 12 years old because this book talks about sixth grade girls and about different clubs and of course secrets. I really enjoyed reading this book because I can imagine everything in my head just like a movie and I have never read a book this good before, I couldn't stop! This book is about three girls, Laura, Tiffany, and Alison and they name/start a club named Pig City because of Laura's hat that she bought in a garage sale. Laura has really long hair and she never cuts it because her parents promised her if she doesn't lie, then she would never have to get a haircut again until she wants to cut it, so she just decided to wear something on her head. Then, the whole sixth grade is about clubs, but it gets way more interesting when you read it so I really recommend this book to someone because after you read it, you will want to read more!!! -T.V.

Quick Summary- A girl named Laura stars a club with her best friend called "Pig City". A boy named Gabriel finds out about the club and wants to join to club, but he promises not to rat of them. When Laura asks Gabriel for a secret of his as insurance for if Gabriel tells Mr.s Doyle(The teacher), something goes terribly wrong. Then suddenly a new gang is formed, called "Monkey Town", rivals of Pig City. A war is almost created between the two, all while keeping their clubs a secret from outsiders. Opinion- I think this book is meant for kids ages 9-12. I am 14 myself and the book was to easy and not challenging at all. It teaches some lessons but in my opinion, more challenging books can teach the same lessons and it could be fun.

Louis Sachar, Sixth Grade Secrets.
Laura Sibbie is a regular sixth grade girl she has long dark brown hair and she has a cap that says `Pig City¿ and it is red with a blue brim. The other character is Gabriel who is in love with Laura but ends up getting in a fight with her. He has dark brown hair like Laura but he spikes his hair because his hair is short. Laura and Gabriel get into a fight and they each have they¿re own separate clubs and how one group dislikes the other and Gabriel¿s group chops Laura¿s hair off. Sheila the girl that dislikes Laura a lot tells Gabriel that her and Howard were the ones who chopped Laura¿s hair off. Then Gabriel got really mad so mad that he pushed Howard into a wall and then he turned around and he punched Sheila and gave her a bloody nose. After he was all done doing that he ran over to Laura¿s house as fast as he could to tell Laura what had happened and that he wasn¿t the one who had chopped her hair off. Then they became friends. The story seems to mostly take place in Laura¿s neighborhood and school. The time is Laura Sibbie¿s sixth grade year. The theme is to always get your facts straight and to try to avoid misunderstandings. I really liked this story because it¿s funny but also realistic at the same time it shows you how to find your real friends.
This book has related to me in that how easy it is to have a misunderstanding, and how when someone doesn¿t like you they do cruel things to you.
Some books that I have read like this one are Artemis Fowl ¿The Arctic Incident¿, and The Outsiders.

The ending was flat. I was really disappointed how it turned out. I kept asking, 'That cannot possible be the end. Is there a sequel?'

Every once in a while, you stumble upon a book like this. It hasn't won any awards, and it isn't very well known. It's just kind of nestled on the shelf among a lot of other award-winning, well-known books. When I was in sixth grade, I picked up this book at random, and now I'm a junior in high school and I still love it. :P I couldn't stop reading it. The story moves along so fast that when it's over I always wish it were longer. It's funny and it captures sixth grade so well. There's even a moral or two in the story. :) This is definitely a book to read.

This book is the best book i have ever read! It is about this girl in sixth grade, her name is Laura Sibbie. She sees this hat at a garage sale and it says 'Pig City'. Then she starts a club of her own and guess what it's called? Pig City!! Laura starts invitting all her friends and whoever joins the club has to give insurance so if you tell anyone about the club you have to show your in surance. Your insurance is something embarrassing, Laura's insurance is that she wrote a note to her teacher saying that she loves him! This boy Gabriel wants to join the club and he is the one in the class who's the joker of the class! Of course he wants to join the club aswell.........Read the book and find out if the joker of the class joins the club!!!!!!!!!

Laura sibbie was a girl who invented a club in her backyard .The clubs were prohibited in school, because a parent told the principal that their child wasn't allowed in no clubs. So one day Laura asked people to give insurance to be in the club and if they told something from the club , their insurance will be showed in front of the whole school.Laura started writing stuff on the blackboards in the morning for example Pigs rule. Mr.Dolye started writing in triangles and when someone kept writing on the board he will change the number everyday and when he found out they will have to write that amount of pages. Yolanda wrote a note to Jonathan as insurance and Yolanda liked Jonathan , he was suprised.

Laura Sibbie starts her own club called Pig City based on a hat she bought at a garage sale. Gabriel, her rival who secretly likes her, starts his own club in jealousy that he wasn't a member of Pig City. The two rivals and their club members pull nasty pranks on each other, and after Laura realizes how foolish they were being, and Gabriel's love for Laura comes into the light. This book is the best ever!! I'm a seventh grader who read this book in fifth grade. I really enjoyed it and have read it numerous times!!!
