Summer break . . . and the livin' ain't easy!

Just because the students at New York College have flown the coop doesn't mean assistant residence hall director Heather Wells can relax. Fischer Hall is busier than ever, filled with squealing thirteen- and fourteen-year-old girls attending the first ever Tania Trace Teen Rock Camp, hosted by pop sensation Tania Trace herself—who just happens to be newly married to Heather's ex-boyfriend, heartthrob Jordan Cartwright. But the real headache begins when the producer of a reality TV show starring Tania winds up dead . . . and it's clear that the star was the intended victim.

Grant Cartwright, head of Cartwright Records, wants to keep his daughter-in-law (and his highest-earning performer) alive. So he hires his oldest son, black sheep of the family and private investigator Cooper Cartwright—who just happens to be Heather's new fiancé. Heather should leave the detecting to Cooper. But with a dorm full of hysterical mini-divas-in-training, she can't help but get involved. And after Tania shares a really shocking secret with her, this reality suddenly becomes more dangerously real than anyone ever anticipated.

Publishers Weekly
Cabot (Big Boned) returns to her Heather Wells series with this fourth mystery. When Tania Trace, the new wife of Heather’s ex, Jordan, becomes involved in a murder during the first annual “Tania Trace Rock Camp,” New York College dorm Fischer Hall earns the nickname that fans of the series know all too well: “Death Dorm.” Quickly, assistant resident director Heather is involved in the case, along with her gorgeous new fiancé, Cooper Cartwright, a PI who is hired to protect Tania. But when Tania reveals a troubling secret to Heather, Heather, an amateur sleuth, and Cooper must work to find the killer before someone else dies. Sadly, book four in the series lacks not only the surprise villain of previous installments, but also Heather’s trademark tenacity in finding the killer (she doesn’t do much sleuthing here). What remains, though, is the cute and amusing wit that Cabot instills in all her female protagonists. Readers of Cabot’s blog will recognize Heather, with her hilarious pop culture references and dry humor. A good read, though fans might find the plot disappointing in the context of the big picture. Agent: Laura Langlie. (July)

The fourth book in the Heather Wells series jumps right into the action and drama--paintball guns, ex-boyfriends, and ambulances take over the plot immediately. Size 12 And Ready To Rock strikes a good balance between providing enough information from the first three novels to keep the reader up to speed and not backtracking so much that things have to come to a grinding halt. Heather’s friends and coworkers constantly refer to events from previous novels, which makes the reader want to read them all. Based on character statements, the reader learns that Heather has matured and developed throughout the series. It is refreshing to meet a young female protagonist who relies on her savvy and brains to solve the murder of Tania Trace’s bodyguard. Heather Wells, unlike many meek and clumsy characters, is self-assured and sassy. The crime forces the celebrity’s Teen Rock Camp to take over a dorm at New York College. Heather’s boyfriend, Cooper Cartwright, must now protect Tania and his family’s interest in Tania’s music career as part of Cartwright Records. Mayhem ensues as Cabot reveals secrets from Tania’s past and Fisher Hall is overrun with fame-hungry teenage girls. School libraries will shy away from the language and sexual content of the novel; however, Cabot’s use of adult content does not feel gratuitous, and mature young adults will have read more scandalous material in novels actually marketed to their age group. Ages 17 to Adult.
