Children's LiteratureThe title promises everything but the kitchen sink, and the book proceeds to deliver, taking the reader through a tour of getting started in inline skating and then to training, dancing, spinning, jumping, and competing. In fact, the book contains information about more than just this extreme sport. It veers into roller hockey, which arguably could be seen as a separate sport. No matter. The graphic design, use of color and action photography give a sense of movement and speed to the book, and it shouldn't take much outside motivation for a reader to become immersed in the subject matter. This library-bound edition is part of the "Extreme Sports" series and it includes a page of in-line skating organizations and Web sites. This book will prove to be a good resource for the young researcher, as well as the young athlete. 2004, National Geographic, Ages 9 to 12.
