Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tiffany Torbeck
Every winter, figure skating becomes a popular sport for young and old to enjoy, but during the Winter Olympics, the interest doubles. The strength of this book is the attention paid to skaters from many different countries. The best skaters in the sport are profiled with more detail given about the Americans, but young readers also learn about the amazing skaters from Korea and Japan. The different types of ice skating are also detailed, from men's and women's individual skaters to pairs and ice dancing. Readers will also learn about the jumps and skills used in each different type of skating. A glossary is appended that will explain what each jump and skill entails. Some of the vocabulary is a little difficult for the reading level, but, for the most part, the photographs and Olympic dreams of these famous skaters will draw in young readers.
