Description: As implied by the title, this book covers the basic, essential facts of musculoskeletal imaging. It adopts a conceptual approach, focusing on musculoskeletal diseases and conditions rather than on specific imaging modalities.
Purpose: This clear and concise book covers the essentials of skeletal radiology, taking its place as a concise primer, addressing general principles through an applicable approach regardless of imaging modality. It is a solid resource for reviewing for the radiology board exam or for use as a reference during a skeletal radiology rotation, residency, or fellowship.
Audience: This should be of interest to orthopedic and rheumatology residents in addition to radiology residents. Experienced radiologists also would find it a great review while picking up additional scattered pearls.
Features: The book is divided into four primary parts that focus on trauma, bone lesions, joint diseases, and miscellaneous topics (among others, developmental, congenital, metabolic, and infectious conditions). A chapter on postsurgical imaging concludes the book. Critical aspects of most common skeletal diseases are described, supplemented by over 900 high-quality images, accompanied by useful illustrations, diagrams, and tables. This third edition includes more MRI and CT images, as well as newer digital radiographic images.

Though it is relevant and timely for all levels of training, those in their early training or those looking for a quick review of topics while preparing for oral boards will find it particularly useful. It clearly establishes an appropriate framework for the study and practice of musculoskeletal radiology.
