If I had had more time before the gift-giving occasion, I would have gotten this paper back converted to a Library binding cover like "Perfection Learning" does with many of their paperbacks. Since it is a reference-type book, it really needs a sturdy cover instead of the flimsy paper cover and binding which doesn't look like it will hold up long under a child's care, (plus, it makes the book look cheap, and maybe unappealing to todays youth). The style/illustrations of the book remind me of the early 60's... a bit outdated in appearance. Hopefully, a child can get passed visual appeal, and will be motivated to use this book anyways, as it is a good starter. I'd say good for 5th grade and older, depending on child's ability to read and work independently. Beginning adult artists might find this helpful as a first book as well. Was this review helpful?
