We talk about books that change something in us. Move us. I am really going to be eating my hat here, because I found a 90 page novella that managed to do just that. SKIN DEEP left me speechless. It swept me away, left sweet tears in my eyes and a smile on my heart. Fans of emotionally intense stories just have to check this one out.
I'd never heard the term Morphea before, but after Ms. Hunter described it, I am pretty certain I've seen it. It's a rare skin disease that leaves the individual's skin discolored and blotchy. In SKIN DEEP, Emily Monroe is trying to recover from her bout with the disease. With the lingering effects still affecting her self-esteem, she ignores her doctor's advice and decides to get a tattoo to mask the blotchiness.
Rick Sutton has scars of his own. A drunk driver nearly stole Rick's legs and did steal the life of his sister after crashing into Rick's motorcycle. Years later he walks with a cane, dealing with the pain in his legs but ignoring the pain that remains in his heart.
When Emily walks into Rick's tattoo shop, she takes his breath away. This tall, statuesque beauty has no idea how amazing she is. It doesn't take long for him to recognize the pain she still harbors in her own heart.
It took me less than an hour to finish SKIN DEEP, but it will take ages for me to shake its lingering effects. I could feel Rick's and Emily's individual pain. And as they shared more of themselves with each other, I could feel the healing taking effect and the love growing. By the time the two caved in to their lust for each other, I think I was ready to pop open the champagne and start the celebration.
SKIN DEEP is a beautiful tale that will warm your heart and light your fire. Contemporary romance fans who can handle some pretty detailed and very hot sizzle in their books are going to really enjoy this treat. Enjoy!
