Meet the Author

Bob Harper is a world-renowned fitness trainer and the longest-reigning star of the NBC reality series The Biggest Loser, which went into its fourteenth season in January 2013. He has released several popular fitness DVDs and is the author of the #1 New York Times bestsellers The Skinny Rules and Jumpstart to Skinny. Harper still teaches a local spin class in Los Angeles, where he resides with his dog, Karl.

This cookbook is terrific. It is filled with great low-calorie recipes PLUS it has all the details on his Skinny Rules. What's not to like? I am already on day two and I honestly love this book. You should know that there are 100 recipes in the book, divided into Breakfasts, Lunches, Dinners and Snacks. Each recipe is on its own page and includes a detailed list of ingredients and directions for preparing the dish. The instructions are clear but very brief. Most recipes are quite simple. Each recipe has nutritional information including calories, and grams of protein, fat, carbs and fiber. This is a full color paperback book and includes very nice full-page photos of the prepared dishes for about 1/3 of the recipes. Best of all, the recipes are less than 350 calories, but I walked away from each meal feeling full. I am now using it in conjunction with The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution. The Hungry Chick Dieting Solution is a book I wish that I found a year ago. I have only been using what I learned from it in the last month, but I have already lost 11 pounds using it. This is the most weight that I have ever been able to lose in years since the birth of my twins and I am soooooo glad that I bought it. My suggestion, don't even think about it-- buy both books and you will see a big difference.

‘Skinny Meals’ prepared by Bob Harper is new book of chef who specializes in recipes for cooking dishes which will be helpful for people trying to lose weight as shown in his two earlier published books ‘The Skinny Rules' and 'Jumpstart to Skinny' both of them bestsellers. In this new book, Harper continues with the same philosophy offering nearly 250 pages of new recipes decorated with colorful pictures. As outlined in the introduction to his book, with twenty breakfast options, thirty-five lunches and dinners and ten recipes for snack reader will be able to mix and match for months and still never get bored. The book is divided into three major chapters – ‘Skinny rules for life’ that is twenty page overview of Harper’s easy-to-follow twenty rules such as drink a lot of water before every meal or no carbs after lunch; ‘Skinny meals’ in which the recipes are divided as described above and finally, ‘Skinny tools’ in which he gives an overview of food purchases for one month, providing a shopping list for each of the four weeks. It's nice to see and it seems fair that Bob Harper in his book didn’t expect that the reader bought his previous books, instead providing many of his key tips again that were mentioned earlier. Speaking about recipes, each of them comes on own page and provides information of ingredients needed for its preparation, nutritional information as well as preparation procedure. Given the amount of information provided, I would say that the level of cooking knowledge expected from reader is around intermediate, so I am unable to recommend this book to completely inexperienced cooks because the preparation procedure in some parts is a bit too briefly explained. On the other side, many of the recipes included inside are easy to prepare, therefore, I recommended reader to browse through a bit if in doubt whether to buy or not, given the lack of experience. Altogether, ‘Skinny Meals’ is yet another great book from Bob Harper that he prepared in full color being equally beautiful to browse through as well as use its recipes. Therefore it can be recommended to all those who feel that they have a problem with weight. While personally I do not have these problems, judging by the experience of the author and his references I have no doubt that you will have success if comply with the instructions provided.

Skinny Meals arrived and was interesting to read Harper's Skinny Rules, but when the book got to the actual recipes, there were about 42 instances where quantities for the ingredients were missing. Also using the "find" feature for locating specific recipes did not function for this book. After calling the store, they could not help me and said I would have to call someone else.

Bob Harper created a cookbook that is easy on the calories, requires no extraordinary ingredients or time, and has options for the vegetarians among us. The recipes are delicious and great for those of us on a diet. I highly recommend this book for the carnivores and vegetarians among us who want to lose weight or are just looking for a few good recipes to keep from putting weight on.

Overall, I really like this book. However, I had already bought and read Skinny Rules so I only bought this one for the recipes. The book contains many recipes I like and will use over and over BUT many of the ingredients show a ? instead of the amount to use. Therefore, the recipe is pretty much useless to me unless I can find another source to get the amount. I'm going to see if B&N will let me return the ebook and then I will buy the paperback version.
