Skippyjon Jones is not your ordinary Siamese cat. He enjoys being with the birds and much to his mother's displeasure, he sleeps with them, eats worms and plays in the birdbath. This just is not the type of behavior she expects from her son. Banished to his room, and warned to stay out of his closet, Skippyjon does not seem to be the least bit fazed. He actually ends up on another adventure, and this time he is a masked bandito consorting with a group of dogs—the Chimichangos. The fearless Skippyjon saves them from an awful monster bumblebee named Alfredo Buzzito. It turns out that the bee is actually a birthday piñata and when he punctures it all the goodies come spilling out all over his room. Mama for once is not really upset and the irrepressible Skippyjon is ready for his next adventure. The illustrations are as humorous as the story and kids will enjoy them. The text is sprinkled with Spanish terms, which may make reading it aloud a challenge for some and a big hit for others. K-Gr 3-This is a wildly wonderful book about a hyperactive kitten, Skippyjon Jones, whose head and ears are too big for his body, and whose imagination is too intense for his mama. According to her, he needs to do some serious thinking about what it means to be a Siamese cat instead of a bird (Skippyjon always wakes up and eats worms with his feathered friends). She sends him to his room, where he imagines he is a Chihuahua ("My name is Skippito Friskito./I fear not a single bandito"). Chock-full of rhyming chants and Spanish expressions, the feline's adventure as a doggy Zorro ends in chaos. His frazzled mother gives him a hug anyway and says, "Say good night, Skippyjon Jones." "Buenas noches, mis amigos," says the kitten, as he bounces on his bed all ready for another adventure. The buoyant and colorful cartoon illustrations match the exuberant text perfectly. Spanish-speaking children will be especially delighted by the words and humor; others may be a little bewildered by all of the foreign phrases and will need some explanation, but the story definitely has the potential of a fun read-aloud. Skippyjon Jones insists he's not a Siamese cat despite ears too big for his head and a head too big for his body. This rambunctious kitty with an overactive imagination prefers to be El Skippito, a Zorro-like sword fighter. Walking through his closet, he meets a mysterioso band of Chichuahuas called Los Chimichangos. The masked Skippyjon joins them, pretending to be a dog and claiming he loves "mice and beans." The Chimichangos are convinced he will bid adios to the bad bandito Bumblebeeto who steals their frijoles. And yippito, he does. Returning home where Mama Junebug Jones and the girls are waiting-his closet explodes with a birthday pi-ata of goodies. This pun-filled spoof is over-the-top comedy littered with Spanish words and "Spanglish" accents (bees-ness). Mama's pet names for Skippyjon-Mr. Kitten Britches, Fluffernutter-add affectionate touches. Colorful, lively illustrations exaggerate the hilarity. No ethnic aspersions intended, just laugh-out-loud humor. Both feline hero and story are full of beans (more Mexican-jumping than pinto) but ay caramba, mucho fun. (Picture book. 5-8)

    The favorite!

    My three year old grandson loves all the Skippyjon books, and this one in particular. Cleverly written, fast paced, highly entertaining. I bought in the "Read to Me" for color nook and love the voice and enunciation of the narrator.

    Excellent book for young ones, and their parents too!

    Love this book! My daughter's favorite for the last 3 years, we can't get enough of Mr. Fuzzypants. Great way to encourage imaginative play and get a little Spanish too.

    Great Book

    You've gotta buy this! I'm a fourth grader (yup, thats right) and I love it! This book is perfect for people of all ages. It's a VERY cute book.

    we love skippito!

    This is a very short and simple board book, not like the others we have read (Skippyjon Jones and Skippyjon Jones in the Dog House) which are long delightful tales. But this is a cute book with a character we love and is easier for my one year old to play with so I am still glad we have it.

    Eclectic little character

    I bought this for some friends of mine who just had their first child. I picked it up because they are cats people; then I read it and fell in love with it. It is a story a little less ordinary yet playful. The writing is fabulous. There are parts written as if Skippyjon is singing which I found to be easy to translate into song. It's a great read and enjoyable for parents, sitters, and children alike.

    A MUST for any collection!

    Wonderful story full of adventure, imagination, and culture. The illustrations are fabulously colorful and endearing. Will have in my collection for generations!

    Laugh out loud!

    I am a Volunteer Pre-Kindergarten teacher '4-5 years old' and my students and son love all the Skippijon Jones' books. They specially enjoy the CD¿S and the narrator did a ¿fantastico¿ job. My boys and girls cannot stop laughing out, singing, mimicking his little songs, and asking for more of the Skippijon Jones series. Buy it for yourself, for a friend, and for your child¿s teacher, they will and you will enjoy them all.

    Very Cute Book

    Great story! Very cute, clever and fun. I wish the Nook version was enhanced with a "Read to me" option and some animation like I've seen in other children's books (like in Marley series). Maybe display the pages one at a time instead of two at a time so we can see the words more easily. You can zoom on the writing but it covers the illustration... not ideal for a young child. I think we'll buy the others in hard back for now. I don't regret the purchase though.

    We Love Skippy Jon!

    My 3yr old loves Skippy Jon. He asked for this book after they read it aloud at his preschool. He begged for it for about two weeks before I went to see what it was all about. The story is so cute and perfect for reading aloud. We were very satisfied. Wished these came in a box set. It would be a great gift idea that way for christmas or teacher gifts.

    Decent book

    The content of the book is fine for children, but we could not get the book to conform to our Nook color. No matter how we would try to change the settings, the book would always open up to show two pages, which made the print extremely small and very hard to read.

    Cute but hard to read text

    The illustrations are great and the story is super cute. Its a little too old for my 17 month old - and she reads a lot. My only complaint is that the text is very small and hard for me to read. On the NOOK color you can tap the text and it enlarges it in a white box, but then is covers up some of the illustration.

    Silly Cat!

    I first heard this book when my teacher for oral communication came in to read to the class two weeks ago. I instantly fell in love with Skippyjon and bought two of the books for my 2 year old son while he was in the hospital. I came online tonight to see if it's formatted for my color nook which it is so I'll be busy buying and downloading when I'm paid next week. This series is a must buy for hours of laughter!

    YAY Skippyjon

    My family loves this book! My daughter brought it home from school and we were instantly hooked after reading it. I love them so much my wife even got them for me as an anniversary present. We also have the audio versions on our Ipods. Keep 'em Judy we love Skippyjon!!!!!
