Realistic and Relatable

S.K.I.R.T.S. in the Boardroom delivers a realistic and relatable approach and perspective for all women looking to achieve success in the workplace. This book is an excellent resource for young women, current executives and entrepreneurs of all backgrounds who inspire to elevate their careers. The book not only equips you with tools to help you achieve your worth in the workplace, it also gives you action plans at the end of each chapter so you can put what you learned to use and make it practical to your situation. After reading this book you will walk away feeling empowered to step up and be heard for the return you deserve on investing your time, talent and loyalty.

What I liked best about the book is that it makes it clear that there are no short cuts to success. It¿s easy to read and understand whether you are a well-read person or if you are looking for ways to break the glass ceiling and picking up this book for the first time.

Marshawn Evans incorporates entertaining ways to motivate women to achieve greatness through the fun analogies and acronyms that are used throughout the book. For example, Evans relates confidence to hairpins also known as bobby pins. ¿Now, when you pick up a bobby pin, you can feel that it is pretty solid, although small. If you have ever used bobby pins, you know they pack a lot of potential! With just a little strategy and know-how, you can instantly obtain the look you want. But ONLY if you position them in the right place,¿ writes Evans. The book is both effective and persuasive and has enhanced my understanding of the issues women are faced with on a job and how to deal with those issues in a strategic way.

I believe young women and entrepreneurs will appreciate this book and enjoy reading it. It offers a solid formula for women who are challenged to get ahead in Corporate America. I encourage all women to read this book and apply what you learn to your work environment and see how it affects your life for the better.

The Cure for Life's Crossroad Blues

Having read several personal development books, not necessarily targeted towards women, when I came across SKIRTS in the Boardroom, I was intrigued by the title and wondered what deposits this book could make into my life that had not already been made by the other business books I had digested. Being at a crossroads in my life, I really wanted to begin the new year taking steps toward the things I was really passionate about doing and cleaning house of anything that would keep me from achieving this goal. Little did I know, this book and its content, would be a godsend.

Starting with a chapter on Confidence, Marshawn Evans weaves stories from her own life and its struggles with issues that women, young and older, face in corporate America, entrepreneurship, and life. With chapters on staying the course, differences in gender communication, networking, developing your personal brand, and more, this book is like having your own personal development coach at your fingertips.

What I really love, is that the book is written so conversationally and how easy I was able to relate my personal situation to the stories shared in the book. Secondly, the wrap-ups at the end of each chapter, keeping the important points fresh in your mind. And lastly, the worksheets at the end of each chapter, which really make and keep you accountable. Who knew it was so hard to think of five words that actually described me and why.... I'm still working on two more!!

This book has really helped me begin to get on track and I recommend it to anyone who needs guidance at any stage of their lives. I know that the book is written with women in mind, but I honestly think men can learn a lot from its content as well. It's definitely a book to keep, revisit, lend to friends, and give as a gift.

I am on my way to maximizing my potential and living out my purpose!!
