The Sky

The Sky

by Ariane Dewey

Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
K-Gr 2-A wonderful collaboration of words and pictures. Images suggested by the language are realized by the fanciful yet realistic pictures, and by the various ways in which the minimal text is placed on each page. The dedication says it all-``The Sky is not the limit.'' On the first page, Dewey invites readers to look up into the blue firmament, which turns out to be not as empty as it seems. An orange bird guides them through the brightly colored pictures. At one time or another, the sky contains moisture droplets, birds and butterflies, rockets and comets, griffins and flying saucers-all manner of things, real and imagined. Children see a cleansing rain storm, pollution, a frightening tornado, a beautiful snowfall, splendid fireworks, the aurora borealis, and the dawn of a new day. While some of the vocabulary might be unfamiliar to the intended audience, this book is perfect for reading aloud, sure to invite excited discussion, and a welcome addition to any collection.-Linda Greengrass, Bank Street College Library, New York City
