Overview

Sky Child contains ten insightful essays covering topics ranging from the dangers of teaching children morality too early to why America is not a Christian nation and how to tax people more fairly. Other essays are about:

- An idea for a radically different welfare system which the author says can help everyone who truly needs help while cutting the total amount government spends on welfare programs.

- Why the author has no respect for the law, and advocates that readers take the same stance.

- How we can change our lives by choosing different metaphors to guide us.

- A clear and concise argument against mandatory sentencing of any kind.

- The different ways we buy money, and whether we pay too much for it.

- Why there is no duty to civil disobedience, even if it is a valid option.

- A serious look at poverty, three definitions of it, and the possibility of it being ended.

Sky Child (approximately 23,700 words) is part of the "At Your Own Risk Series" by Steve Gillman. The essays in these books are meant to suggest new ideas, open minds, occasionally entertain, and above all to encourage independent thought.

Meet the Author

I write on a wide variety of subjects and I try to approach each with an eye to what others have missed. My book "101 Weird Ways to Make Money" (Wiley and Sons 2011) is my best seller so far. I like money as a subject, but I'm more passionate when writing about important social and political matters. I think Social Security should be replaced with something else, religion is dangerous, marriage should be eliminated as a legal institution, and flags are worth less than rags. I do not respect authority in any form, because I respect people and their rights as individuals. I think obedience to law is a matter of convenience, not a duty. Might never makes right, even when it is the might of the majority.

I am sometimes wrong, and I think we should beware of anyone who cannot say the same. We should all change our minds as new information and knowledge become available. So I may change what I have to say on a subject from one book to the next. If that annoys some readers all I can say is look for a guru elsewhere--I only intend to suggest new and useful ideas and to encourage readers to do their own thinking.
