    Great Atlas for the field

I've had this atlas for almost 6 months and it has served me well. The Telrad scaling is great. The map legend is very easy to use. The atlas is easily read using a red light. The heavy stock it is printed on is very durable and holds up well to dewing. The fact that this atlas is bound and lies flat makes it more useful and most atlases out there. Despite the two errors pointed out below, I have not encountered any other errors.

    Great little star atlas

I bought this as a backpacking star atlas and it quickly became my most used atlas. I lamenated mine and put it on a metal spiral.

    Further to DR's review

DR has stepped over common sense in telling everyone not to buy this wonderful Sky Atlas because of a couple of small printing errors. I have yet to see any Sky Atlas that does not come from the printer with multiple errors in details. Sky and Tel has posted on their website corrected pages for the two charts. They suggest you print them out in color and cut and paste them into the book to replace the incorrect pages. Go to the Sky and Tels website and look for the 'shop at sky' link. Select Atlases Maps and Globes, then scroll to the bottom of the page for the Pocket Sky Atlas. Select the Image of the book and there on the bottom of the next page is the link to the corrected pages.

    Excellent stargazing resource

This is a great help for starhopping and it's the perfect size as well. The two flaws are very minor and the corrected pdf files are available for download off Sky Publishing's website. This book is a great investment for stargazers of any skill level.

    Terrific working star atlas

This is a wonderful book. If you have a telescope and don't have something similar, order this book right now.It is a perfect size for using outside, at the telescope. The spiral binding works great. The pages are coated, so they are dew resistant. The designers took the very innovative step of keeping relevant areas of the sky all on one chart, rather than splitting constellations according to a rigid rule. That turns out to be hugely convenient. The number and limiting magnitude of stars shown works well with 8x50 finders. The map scale is usable, yet keeps the page size small and manageable for carrying in the dark. Extensive lists of objects (Messier, Caldwell, and numerous other catalogs). For some odd reason, they do not list Caldwell, though of course they show the corresponding NGC numbers and there is a table in the back that translates between the two.If you don't already have a star atlas that you use in the field, and that you love ... order this book right now.

    Flawed charts

Don't buy this book. There are flaws on charts 55 and C. I believe it involves the entire production run and the Sky Pub is not informing customers about the problem until after you find the problems.
