    I read the book hot shot w/julian pryce in it and when i found out about this book i bought it. It's a great book!!!!!!!!!

    Slum Dunk Readable, Barely

    Julian was the star of the state-champion Tornadoes last year. He won the MVP award, was written about in the newspaper, and even got to meet some NBA players. But when he shows up for the first practice this year, there are few familiar faces on the court. He soon learns that only one of his contributing teammates from last year, back-up point guard Grady, will be joining him on this years squad. Even more disheartening, Julian learns that Barry, one of his best friends from last year, has been in an accident and isn't sure if he can ever play basketball again. At first, Julian refuses to play with heart, but his teammates know what he is capable of and push him to succeed. Slam Dunk is an extremely simple and straightforward book. The vocabulary is small and uncomplicated and there are very few variations in sentence structure. Chapters are divided evenly, with each one ending in a small hook to lure the reader to the next chapter. Simply put, Slam Dunk will appeal only to the very young sports fan, with many third-graders and perhaps even some second-graders being able to read and comprehend it. Reluctant readers will dive into this book due to its ease of read and short length. While it is certainly good to get reluctant readers to pick up a book, far better selections could be made in place of this one. Though it may be acceptable as a free reading book or a book to read at home, this book should not be encouraged as a school book and other sports book alternatives should be sought out.
