Sleep Through Insomnia: Meditations to Quiet the Mind and Still the Body

by Krs Edstrom

Editorial Reviews

Library Journal - Library Journal
Modern science has shown that regular meditative practice can promote greater health. Edstrom, a longtime practitioner and teacher of meditation, offers two exercises to mitigate the effects of pain and sleeplessness. She guides the listener through breathing and visualization exercises that help to connect with the body and show how it feels when in pain or sleep deprived. These audiobooks do not guarantee instant sleep or an escape from pain, rather the insomniac may reach a state of deep relaxation that is certainly healthier than stressful sleep. Persons in pain (whether physical, emotional, or mental) are taught how to acknowledge (rather than flee) from it; then they are shown how to identify and release the source of pain. The author's years of work in this field are evident. The pacing, nonprescriptive visualizations, and appropriate music are all hallmarks of an excellent meditative program. Both works are highly recommended for libraries serving people who meditate or are interested in alternative/complementary healing modalities.-Kathleen Sullivan, Phoenix P.L.
