Editorial Reviews

KLIATT - Heather Campbell
In Sleeper Code, all Tom Lovett wants is to be a normal 16-year-old, but it's hard for someone to have an average life if there is always the possibility that he might fall asleep without warning and then stay asleep for days. Tom suffers from Quentin's narcolepsy, a rare and incapacitating version of the sleep disorder. The unpredictability of this illness has kept Tom from learning to drive, from attending a regular school, and from ever making any friends. He is isolated from everyone except for his parents and a long list of medical specialists. However, Tom does not realize exactly how far from "normal" he is. He is in fact the result of scientific experimentation sanctioned by the government. His narcolepsy has been manipulated to create an artificial personality named Tyler Garrett, a cold-blooded and skilled assassin. When Tom falls asleep during a narcoleptic attack, Tyler wakes up. When Tom learns the truth, he also learns that there is no one he can completely trust. He cannot even trust himself. Tom must allow Tyler's survival skill and fighting instincts to emerge in order to stay alive. But in allowing Tyler to come to the surface, he risks losing himself to the other personality. The sequel, Sleeper Agenda, finds Tom working with Pandora, the agency that helped rescue him from his cold-blooded creator, Brandon Kavanagh. The agents of Pandora test him mentally and physically in order to ascertain his capabilities. Although Tom remembers and can utilize Tyler's combat training, he must struggle to make sure that Tyler's personality never takes over. During a supervised encounter with the woman who was posing as Tom's mother, something dangerous in triggeredin him. Soon, Tom is no longer fighting only Kavanagh and the agents that cross his path, but he is also battling to regain control of himself. Although there is very little of literary merit in either of these two novels, they have incredibly engaging plots. The full-tilt action will attract the most reluctant of readers.
VOYA - Michael Levy
Tom Lovett suffers from narcolepsy, a neurological disorder that causes him to fall asleep whenever he is stressed. Unable to attend school or have any real friends, he spends most of his time at home or at the doctor's office. Sometimes Tom has extraordinarily vivid hallucinations, sometimes he has terribly violent dreams, and on occasion he can remain unconscious for days on end. At least that is what his parents tell him. Everything changes when Tom discovers that there is someone else inside his head and that the other person, Tyler Garrett, is a trained assassin, the tool of Janus, a secret government project gone terribly wrong. When Tom attempts to break free from those who control him, he learns that he cannot trust anyone--not his doctor, not the people he thought were his parents, no one except perhaps Madison, the young woman who has just moved in next door. Together they soon find themselves on the run from trained killers, led by Brandon Kavanagh, a former government agent gone bad, who will stop at nothing to keep the Janus Project a secret. In the sequel, Sleeper Agenda, Tom must come to terms with both his dark alternate personality and his blossoming relationship with Madison. He must forge a working relationship with the government agency that still wants to control him. And he must bring Brandon Kavanagh to justice. Although the basic premise of Sniegoski's novels is a bit far fetched, the stories are well plotted and full of action, and the characters are entirely believable. The series is solid, if not very demanding adventure fiction.

Picking up almost immediately after where SLEEPER CODE ended... <BR/><BR/>Tom Lovett is locked in a battle. A battle with himself. Or, more accurately, a battle with Tyler Garrett, the second, deadly personality that The Janus Project created to exist in Tom when he "sleeps." The winner gets to live. The loser ceases to exist. <BR/><BR/>When Tom has a narcoleptic attack, Tyler Garrett takes over. That's how it's supposed to work, anyway. But now that Tom knows about Tyler, the barrier between the two is braking down. Tom and Tyler's memories are beginning to blend, as are their personalities. Tom has flashes of memories of death and destruction, and Tyler experiences moments of doubt and guilt. <BR/><BR/>With Tom's psyche weakened by experiments, all it takes is a whisper from the woman who masqueraded as Tom's mom and Tyler Garrett is back. Literally hanging on for his life. <BR/><BR/>Tyler escapes the Pandora facility to fulfill a mission. He's stuck with Madison, who believes he's Tom, and whom he can't seem to manage to kill or discard. All the while, Tom is locked in a mental prison, fighting for his life, and Madison's, and possibly the continued existence of the world, to escape. <BR/><BR/>Personal demons are truly life-like in this story of danger and strength. Who do you trust when you can't even be sure you can trust yourself? <BR/><BR/>As action-packed and fast moving as the first book. Tom Sniegoski doesn't miss a step in the continuation of the story. It goes deeper and gets darker then could be imagined. So well-written that I even almost felt bad for the villain. But it all comes down to choices, in the end. Reading this book is a good one.

Action pact! Better than the first

Sleeper Agenda is the second part of the Sleeper conspiracy. This book is the best book of the Sleeper books. I would recommend it to middle age to adults. Tom Lovett has to save Madison from trouble (again) shortly after she leaves Pandora. Tyler Garrett tries to take over. After a wile Tyler finally mages to take over (with some help from his mom) leaving Tom in the dark mansion to wonder around. Tom finds these doors in the mansion that unlock part of his past. Tyler mages to get out of Pandora with Madison. After finding a metal door in the back of the mansion he is able to fuse with Tyler. Tom (who is now back in control) fakes his way in to Brandon Kavanagh¿s secret base pretending he is Tyler. Tom takes out all the agents in the base with the help of his mom. Tom finds a group of young Sleeper agents and takes them under his wing. Tom then goes to look for his mom who he finds with Brandon, who has a gun to her head. When Brandon hears the Pandora agents coming he kills Tom¿s mom and gets away. Two years latter Tom finds Brandon and turns him into Pandora
