Lianne was one of three babies given by her defeated homeland to the land of Fithia as a peace offering after a great war. All her life she has been raised to believe that her homeland is magic less, defeated and weak, until her 16th birthday when a spell placed on Lianne as a baby ends and she discovers that much she had believed to be the truth is actually a lie. With those supposed to guide her through her awakening dead, she must rely on fellow adoptees Kellan and Bryden for the truth. When everyone has a hidden agenda how will Lianne decide who to trust? Will she follow her heart or will she allow herself to be led astray?
I found this book to be a very enjoyable read. At first "Sleepers" seems like a traditional, predictable fantasy book but there are many surprises that make it far from predictable. I loved the element of mystery in this book and the twists in the plot kept me guessing throughout. I liked the characters, especially Lianne and Bryden and can’t wait to see them developed further in the rest of the series. This book just kept on getting better and better as I got further through it and the end was simply amazing, an action packed roller coaster of surprises and excitement. I can’t wait for the second book in this fantastic new trilogy and I will be very eagerly awaiting its release.

I didn’t take many notes on this book, because I could barely put it down! It was a superb read, and I can’t wait to read Book Two!
Lianne is a handmaiden to the queen of Fithia, Mags. But Mags is also a friend, one of the few that Lianne really has. Of course there’s her boyfriend, Kellan, and the other adoptee into Fithia, Bryden. But that’s about it. She’s never really been a part of the society she lived in from the time she was a baby, and never knowing her own homeland, she was almost alone her entire life.
Then on the morning of her sixteenth birthday Lianne wakes up angry. It’s not just a passing mood; it’s a rage at what’s been done to her, Kellan, and Bryden since they were adopted into Fithia as part of a treaty at the end of the war between the Dalagans and the Fithians.
Kellan is dark and sexy, the “bad boy” young girls dream about. He makes Lianne feel alive and ready to live, ready to fight. And then there is Bryden, the third adoptee. He was injured as a boy and has a permanent limp. He’s book smart, not so much the fighter that Lianne and Kellan are. Odd man out, you’d think. That is, until Lianne wakes up angry. Bryden is the boy who brings her to calmness and serenity. Maybe not what she wants at the moment, but what she needs, right?
I really loved this love triangle. It was hard to tell who to trust at different points in the story. In the tug of war over Lianne’s heart, I often felt myself switching sides between Bryden and Kellan. Lead with your heart, or lead with your head?
When Lianne goes through her “awakening” and she wakes up knowing the secrets that have been hidden from her for her entire life regarding the war between the two sets of people. I thought this was a very unique plot twist that I haven’t seen yet…children under a magical spell until their sixteenth birthday. Brilliant idea, in my opinion.
Lianne is getting different information from almost every place she turns to for answers. I was right there with her, trying to figure out whom to trust and who not to. It seems no one really knows what the real answer is. Her whole life has been a secret and a lie.
When the truth finally comes out it is explosive! There is nonstop action, and I actually felt joy at the impending war that was certain to come next. I know, that sounds bad, right? But it meant freedom for the adopted kids who really never knew family, never knew their history, their people.
But wait! The secrets aren’t over, oh no, not by a long shot. And when things are brought to light, and Lianne discovers that what you think is good is not always good, and what you thought was bad was not entirely wrong… well, it rocks her world and everything she believed. The plot twists in this story will definitely keep you reading and waiting anxiously to find out what happens next. As for me, I’m happily waiting until June of this year for book two, Afterlife.

I read this book in one day without putting it down!!!!!
Was this review helpful? Yes NoThank you for your feedback. Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.Once again, Megg Jensen reeled me in from the very beginning. Lianne is one of three Dalgans living among the Fithians. She is one of the handmaidens for the Fithian queen, who is her best friend. I quickly grew attached to Mags (Lianne's nickname for the queen). I was amazed at everything she went through, even being the queen.
In the beginning, I found myself loving Kellan, her Dalagan boyfriend, as much as she did. Once Bryden, the other Dalagan boy living in the Fithian kingdom, began speaking to her again, I was shocked at my reaction. Surely this boy was better than Kellan-she had to pick him!
Lianne's discovery and subsequent reaction to the magic was fantastic. All her life, she had been told that her people no longer had magic. On her sixteenth birthday, she discovered that it was untrue-and that someone had known for many years and hadn't told her.
The twists and turns of Sleepers will have you page-turning frantically-I couldn't put it down! The ending was completely unexpected. I'm anxiously awaiting book two!

I totally loved this book. It was different and original. The author had me quessing throughout the whole book.
In this story Lianne is one of three that were adopted into a foreign land. She has no idea who she is until the day she turns sixteen. The foreigners don't like their kind. She faces trials and betrayal.
I was totally left wanting more. I look forward to the next book.

It's abundantly clear from the very beginning that the main character, Lianne, is one tough chick. She's able to fight better than anyone she knows, although this is a secret she must keep quiet from everyone but her fellow Dalagans (a bit of background: her people are called Dalagans and they gifted Lianne to the Fithians to ensure peace). I really liked how strong she was, but I felt like she was insanely naive at times, to the point that I was shaking my head; although, she was only 16, so we should probably take her young age into account and not judge her too harshly. She definitely became more self-assured and mature by the end of the book. Then we have the two guys in her life, Kellan and Bryden. Kellan is the more out-going of the two, confident to the point of being cocky, and the object of Lianne's affection. I wasn't sure how I felt about him in the beginning, but by the end you will certainly have a very strong opinion regarding his character. Bryden was quiet, reserved, and obviously harboring some secrets. He also used to be best friends with Lianne until the accident when they were young that changed his life. I liked Bryden right away; I can't really tell you why exactly, but he just seemed more trustworthy and genuine than Kellan. Another character that deserves mentioning is the Queen, or "Mags" as Lianne calls her. Her and Lianne became best friends, despite the odds, even though they would most likely both be punished if the king found out. Mags was as much a prisoner as Lianne, for although she seemed to live in the lap of luxury, she was confined to the walls of the castle and lived only to serve her husband, King Rotlar. In fact, I felt worse for Mags than I did for Lianne, because she had no one else to confide in about anything; Lianne at least had Kellan and, eventually, Bryden to talk to about things going on in her life. Overall, we see some big changes in most of the characters; some good, some bad, but all really interesting to read about. Romance Sizzle Or Fizzle?: I can't really go into much detail here either, for fear of giving away too much! I won't tell you if she ends up with Kellan or Bryden, but I will say I found the romance to sizzle, because I feel that Lianne and the guy she chooses have great chemistry and seem to belong together. Now you just have to read this book for yourself to find out who the lucky guy is! Overall, not a bad read! The first half for me was 5 stars, the second half I would rate as a 3 (maybe 3.5, but I don't really deal in 1/2 stars), so I'm going to even it out to 4 stars. Even though it fizzled a bit for me in the end, I still enjoyed reading it and am wondering what will happen next with these characters. If you enjoy a book with magic, plot twists, and a good love triangle, then you should definitely check this one out!

Report this reviewThank you, this review has been flagged.I'm a huge fan of Megg's writing if you've read my previous reviews of her Cloud Prophet books you'd see that. Megg has a way of creating a fantasy realm that you could see yourself living in even wanting to! I'll try and not spoil too much so this review will be short and sweet because I feel like I could ramble about this book for days!
Lianne is the type of character you fall in love with immediately she is loving, caring, but also very strong. The two boys in this story couldn't be more different there's the quiet shy Bryden or the strong outspoken Kellan. I'll be honest I didn't like Kellan from the start I thought he was arrogant and something always felt off with him. Bryden though stole my heart immediately with his dreamy eyes and his smarts!
I think the best part of this story was all the twists and turns. I'd finally get comfortable where it was going and then Megg would throw a huge monkey wrench into the scenario and we'd be headed off in a completely different direction.
Go pick up Sleepers now! I'm patiently (not really) waiting for book 2 :D
Sleepers is the latest novel from the author of The Cloud Trilogy, and the first in the new Swarm trilogy. Megg Jensen has the ability to create worlds and characters that, while fantasy, are so incredibly believable and real to the reader. Even the imagery of the tiniest details brings you in. There was a short passage in which Lianne is running barefoot outside and dust settles over her feet. Such a tiny detail, but I was so into the story that I swear I could feel the dust on my own feet. To me, that is the mark of a truly wonderful writer, one that can make you feel a story.
Lianne is one of three Dalagan children given to the Fithians as a symbol of peace between the two formerly warring kingdoms. Lianne is the queen's favorite handmaiden, who is Lianne's only real friend among the Fithians. Kellan has been fostered by the armsman and is the boy who Lianne has always dreamed of. The third Dalagan is Bryden, once Lianne's closest friend, now holding himself apart from his fellow countrymen. I absolutely loved Lianne from the start. She is a strong girl, but one that had all of the normal doubts of any woman. I loved the fact that she was a warrior, one that was even stronger than almost anyone in the kingdom!
The twists and turns in this book were unbelievable! Just as soon as I thought I knew where the story was going, something huge would happen and change everything. It is almost impossible to talk about all of those twists and turns without giving away the story line and taking away from the sheer joy of reading this book. Those twists and turns and never knowing what was going to happen made Sleepers so fabulous that I didn't want it to end. And the ending,...? Totally NOT what I expected!
Magic, intrigue, suspense, mystery, friendship, love, betrayal,... this book has everything! Run, don't walk, and buy this amazing book! As much as I love Anathema and Oubliette, I think Sleepers just may be my new favorite!

Once again Megg Jensen proves that she truly is a rockin', amazing, fabulous and compelling writer! Her writing is so compelling that I even continued reading through the acknowledgements at the end of the book where she talks about what compelled her to write Sleepers (btw.I NEVER do that..LoL).
One of the things I love most about Megg Jensen's books is that she can write a short book (around 200 pages) and yet get so much out of so few pages! How the heck does she do that? You'd think a short book like Sleepers could only be a small part of a much larger book, but, no, I get just as much from one of Megg Jensen's books as I get out of another series with 400 to 500 more pages! I also love how Megg is able to always leave me guessing where her book is headed, wondering who I should trust and trying to figure out if I can guess all the plot twists. But, like always, I just couldn't predict the biggest twists in Sleepers!
The magical fantasy world that Megg created for Sleepers is very similar to The Cloud Prophet Trilogy (Anathema & Oubliette). I love, love, love the main character Lianne.she is one tough cookie! While reading about Lianne I kept picturing that cute chick on the cover of the book and she works perfectly! There is also a character who is introduced close to the end of the book (a major surprise), who is torn out of the story almost immediately and I am REALLY hoping we will be able to see this character in future books.
I am not going to give up any more about this book because I don't want to give you ANY ideas of who you should/shouldn't trust and I don't want to give up any spoilers; it is best to start reading this book as blind as possible. But I will tell you this; I was once again completely disgusted with the villains in this book! And I wish I were there so I could take care of them myself!!!
Exactly how does one write a review for a book that has them in the corner of their room, rocking back and forth, sucking their thumb . . uncertain of everything they have ever known? (ok, everything they though they knew/understood about the book they were reading) Let me say this: I AM SUPER HAPPY, SUPER GLAD THIS IS THE FIRST BOOK OF A TRILOGY!!!!! I got this book yesterday and I began reading it last night. By the end of chapter one I was seriously HOOKED! This isn't a good thing to have happen on a night when one should be going to bed early due to a road trip scheduled to begin at 6am. Fighting it as I did, I placed the Nook on the shelf and laid my head down. The ride home had me thinking about this story, wishing I could read and drive at the same time. I even thought about stopping for a bite to eat just so I could read, however I pressed on and found my way home. It was on the way to dinner with someone else driving that I got to pick it back up and read some more. I'm sure my husband thought all my mumbling under my breath, sighs, gasps, were all related to his driving somehow, but they weren't . . it all had to do with this book. Even the points where I laughed out loud. It's the twists and turns of this story that will leave you BREATHLESS! I wouldn't even suggest trying to figure things out, because just as you think you have it . . HAHAHA, you don't! (You will hear Megg Jensen saying, "psych"). My favorite quote from this story has to be one from the beginning of the story . . . "I feel asleep afraid. I woke up with hatred in my heart." It wasn't this statement alone that had me . . but it was like the beginning of the end . . sorta, lol! I would recommend this book to EVERYONE! Grab a copy and settle in for an AWESOME ride! One you won't be forgetting anytime soon! Thank you Megg Jensen for writing this story, I can not wait to see how this plays out.

An adoptee raised in a foreign land, sixteen-year-old Lianne was content with her life as handmaiden to the queen, until a spell cast on her at birth activated. But when the kingdom ...
