Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Donna Freedman
Hurray! A brunette! In Heyer's vision, Sleeping Beauty has hair of "a glorious, shimmering black," a pleasant change of pace from the everlasting parade of blond princesses. Another nice touch is that the princess is not only beautiful, but polite, sensible, kind and possessed of "the wit of an angel." Hurray, again, for a story that tells little girls beauty isn't the be-all and end-all. (I suppose it's too much to ask for an average-looking princess.) Heyer's retelling is stately and dignified, and her lovely acrylic paintings should fire kids' imaginations.

SO many great memories when remembering this book! Read it over and over when i was little and got lost in the beautiful illustrations. Loved that she was a dark-haired sleeping beauty. Such a literary treasure!
