Overview

Essence® bestselling authors Wahida Clark and Kiki Swinson deliver a double-shot of street lit fiction—two novellas about women betrayed who are out for nothing less than revenge. . .

Enemy in My Bed Wahida Clark

She rules the weed scene in Memphis, USA. But Kreesha can't control the dangerous way she's feelin' about Reign—a brother who's married, just out of prison, and one strike away from lockdown-for-life. He's a past master of the game, and Kreesha can't get enough of his body or heart. But when Reign betrays her to the Feds, she'll risk everything to save her empire and give Reign one last seduction—with a bullet. . .

Keeping My Enemies Close Kiki Swinson

Larissa Taylor is fed up with lying, cheating men. Her best friend Tenisha's suggestion: try a guaranteed-to-be-faithful brother in prison. But Sean Miller is one thug-a-licious addiction. So, when a sex-struck Larissa is caught smuggling weed for Sean, she's the one who winds up behind bars. Now, Tenisha's got Larissa's man and baby. But Larissa is ready to go beyond even street justice to make sure her ex-friend and cheating man get the ultimate payback. . .

Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly

Two novellas from Clark and Swinson prove to be inaccessible to anyone not already familiar with street lit and will likely disappoint fans of the genre. In Clark's "Enemy in My Bed," Memphis weed dealer Kreesha is in love with Reign, even though he's locked up and married to someone else. When he gets out of prison, she sets him up with a dealing business. When he gets busted, he turns on Kreesha and her crew, but Kreesha doesn't plan on going down easy. Swinson's "Keeping My Enemies Close" follows Larissa Taylor, who smuggles drugs into prison for her boyfriend, Sean "Supreme" Miller. She gets caught, and a pregnant Larissa eventually gives custody of her son to her friend Tenisha. Turns out, though, that Tenisha set her up, and now Tenisha has Larissa's son and man. When Larissa gets out of prison, there's a bloody payback. Unfortunately, the dialect is heavy, the language coarse and the characters little more than vehicles for playing out revenge fantasies. Meet the Author

Wahida Clark
Wahida Clark
Wahida Clark was born and raised in Trenton, New Jersey. She decided to write fiction while incarcerated at a women's federal prison camp in Lexington, Kentucky. Crowned the "Queen of Thug Love Fiction" by Nikki Turner, the "Queen of Hip Hop Fiction" herself, Wahida's style of writing is the template for urban literature. When you read her novels, they are so real you are convinced of one of three things: you know the characters, you want to know the characters, or you are one of the characters. Her bestselling novels include Thug Matrimony, Every Thug Needs a Lady, Thugs and the Women Who Love Them and Payback is a Mutha, all published by Kensington/Dafina Books.

Kiki Swinson was born and raised in Portsmouth, Virginia. She discovered her flair for writing twelve years ago after completing her first novel, Mad Shambles, while serving a five-year sentence at a federal prison. After being released in December 1996, Kiki later went on to self-publish Mad Shambles. Her passion for writing didn't stop there. Writing feverishly into the wee hours of the night, she completed her second novel, Wifey, which was published by Melodrama Publishing. After the success of Wifey, Kiki penned the sequels I'm Still Wifey and Life After Wifey, as well as The Candy Shop and A Sticky Situation.

    Crap

I hated this book. I think it was very poorly put together. On a good note though Kiki Swinson's story was decent, first I read of her. The book overall though was poorly put together and poorly edited. Seemed like it had no good direction. I am now about to read Wifey by Kiki Swinson and I really hope it leaves a better impression of the author.

    So disappointed

I usually really like Wahida Clark and her writing style but in this book it was just horrible.Enemy in my bed was a story about two very weak women who let a man make fools out of them. The structure of the story was all over the place and she went out of her way to make the wife look bad and his mistress look good. The main characters stupidity is never ending in this story even when she found out she had been betrayed her dumb *&^ did nothing to help her situation any many parts of the story where unrealistic and silly. I AM VERY DISAPPOINTED IN THIS STORY.

    Decent Read

This was a pretty good read. I didn't know it was 2 stories in one and probably wouldn't have bought it if I had known. I'm not a fan of KiKi Swinson, but I love Wahida Clark, however in this book, KiKi stepped up her game and I enjoyed her story better than Wahida's. I finally decided Wahida's main character was reallly dumb, but it was still filled with drama. They both were. Not a bad read at all.

    Weak story line

I read Kiki Swinson's 'Wifey' and loved it. However, this book was very disappointing to me. The section of the book written by Ms. Swinson was very predicateable. There were no highlights. The main character in the story was a typical pretty woman with low self-esteem, falls in love with a prisoner and make the wrong choices which lands her in prison. I'd never read anything by Whadia Clark, but if any of her other books are as weak as the story line in 'Enemy in My Bed' I'll save my money for something else. The story did not flow it kept jumping from one place to another. If you plan to purchase this book, don't. Save your money. I tried to return it to the bookstore, but lost my receipt. Darn!
