I used to read the Jake Logan books all the time. This was the first one I picked up in years and very thoroughly enjoyed it. Good writing, not the generalized drivel you get in so many of these series westerns. The author really put me 'there' and while the story was basically just a fun time, he made me care about the characters. And that's what makes for good entertainment. Not high art, but better than 98% of the nonsense you'll see on tv or at the movies.

Most series westerns are just shoot-em-ups. This one has its share of gunplay but there is so much more. Well done characters, a creepy villain with a secret, a town filled with frightened men and women -- and the really strange reason they are scared. Well done and a fun read!
