Survive the infection! Survive the Infected!

The box set contains the full text of books 1 thru 3 in the Slow Burn series.

A new flu strain has been spreading across Africa, Europe, and Asia. Disturbing news footage is flooding the cable news channels. People are worried and frightened.

But Zed Zane is oblivious. He needs to borrow rent money from his parents. He gets up Sunday morning, drinks enough tequila to stifle his pride and heads to his mom’s house for a lunch of begging, again.

But something is wrong. There’s blood in the foyer. His mother’s corpse is on the living room floor. Zed’s stepdad, Dan is wild with crazy-eyed violence and attacks Zed when he comes into the house. They struggle into the kitchen. Dan’s yellow teeth tear at Zed’s arm but he grabs a knife and stabs Dan, thirty-seven times, or so the police later say.

With infection burning in his blood, Zed is arrested for murder but the world is falling apart and he soon finds himself back on the street, fighting for his life among the infected who would kill him and the normal people, who fear him.

I pick up this trilogy because it was free. I thought another zombie book. I was reading another book but got bored. So I wanted to see how he could write. I picked up another book that he team up with T.W. Piperbrook (who series Contamition I have enjoyed.) I started reading. It is a first person story with Zed narrating. He was just a slacker when the virus struck. It started as a very high fever, then the person turn into a very hungry creature who eats others. Some people are immune who are prime targets for these creatures. A few like Zed, get it with a lower temperature. Which turns them very white, and completely dilated eyes, like the other creatures. But they still act normal. These are called Slow Burn. The good side, the creatures tend to ignore them, the bad side the immune and healthy see them as dangerous. Now Zed and a few others are trying to survive as the world goes to hell. Seem like most other zombie books, but the first person style and someone who is in the middle makes it very different. His writing keeps up a fast moving tale. The characters are people who you learn to care about. I just wanted to get a taste of his writing, I ended up reading all three books and wanting more. Luckily there is 4 more books for me. Here are the names of the three books, I highly recommend getting the trilogy. Slow Burn: Zero Day, Book 1 Slow Burn: Infected, Book 2 Slow Burn: Destroyer, Book 3

At first, because these books were free, I was under the impression that they were going to be sub-par. But these first three books kept me on my toes for sure. I really like the use of elevated vocabulary and visuals. Bobby Adair is an amazing author and I am so excited to read the next books

Well written, with engaging, if somewhat thinly developed characters. The zombie apocalypse story at least covering some of the troubles that survivors would experience. The only reason its not five stars is that the entire story in books one to three should be in less than one book, not fewer words, just not broken into three books. It makes me feel as if the ongoing books will be too short to justify buying them individually.

Im a sucker for zombies, and an even bigger sucker for a zombie book that spins a different outlook. The first 3 books got me hooked, i plan on buying the forth. Kind of sad that they were such a quick read, wish there was more expansion of characters. Other than that, i really enjoyed the first three of the series Slow Burn.

Slow Burn Zombie Apocalypse Series by Bobby Adair is a box set of three stories following a young man named Zed Zane (yes, really). There’s a flu going around. Either you are immune, although very few are, or you recover from it, or it kills your advanced brain functions. Zed Zane gets the flu and recovers. However, one doesn’t totally recover from this flu. Through these first three volumes, Zed goes from being an underachieving lazy college graduate to become the quasi leader of a small band of survivors. He has a few issues to work through, like his sudden onset anger and his need to put himself in the line of fire to rescue others. Zed is a slow burn, which means he has been affected by the flu in ways that have changed his body. One of the changes is that his normal temperature is now higher than what is normal for a non-infected person. I like this series. It is interesting and a little bit of a different take on the whole zombie apocalypse story. We see typical social prejudices surfacing between those not infected and the slow burns as well as those who can put the differences aside and work together to stay alive. Those that are affected to the point that they do turn into the zombies start showing new behaviors, besides just tearing into people to eat them. As usual, our military is no help and are easily overrun. If you like zombie stories, I recommend you check out this series. It’s especially accessible because right now, the e-book of the box set is FREE! Can’t do any better than that for trying out a new series.
