Overview

Leigh Thorn is hiding out in a backwoods college because her father put her in danger, and if the wrong people find her, she's dead. She'd rather snort lines than think about that. She'd rather do shots of marshmallow-flavored vodka until she can't remember.

When Griffin Fawkes arrives with the news that her father's dead, she isn't sure if she cares. He wasn't much of a father anyway. The only silver lining here is that Griffin's jaw-droppingly gorgeous, and Leigh wants him bad.

Griffin owes his life to Leigh's father. The man begged him to keep his daughter safe. But Griffin didn't expect a cocaine-fueled party girl who barely seems to care about her own safety. It seems like she'd rather destroy herself than anything else.

Even worse, he didn't expect he'd care about her. He knows he's too damaged to ever really be with a woman. The best he can do is to make sure she's safe from whoever could hurt her. Including herself. Including himself.

Of course, fighting off men with guns is starting to seem easier than keeping his hands off Leigh.

Just finished this book, & I have to say once again V.J. Chambers didn't let me down. I really enjoyed this book. I liked the plot and the characters and their relationship development though out this book. It kept me guessing and I enjoyed that. At certain parts in the book I was reminded of some if the other work that was written by V.J. Chambers but I didn't mind since I have liked/loved every book she has written. I highly recommend reading her work you won't be disappointed.

Second in a series. Well written with a good plot and well developed characters. The story goes from fast paced to slow, then speeds up. Repetetive at times. The "doll" nonsense is tiresome and gets old very quickly. I'm vacilating between a 3 or 4 rating. 3 1/2 would be better if it were possible so I'll go with 4 as I think most peoole would like the book

I wasn't sure what to expect when I started reading this book...but I was pleasantly surprised! I was glad to see that it had sort of a science fiction twist to it (with the Op Wraith and serum). I loved the plot, action, and characters and how they changed each other. The only thing that was annoying and didn't give the book 5 stars was Leigh's thought process. Throughout the book when she was thinking she would have all these short, choppy thoughts and questions, which I thought was annoying (but I guess it's how we really think). Also, it bothered me how Griffin acted some of the time. I understand that he's basically been through hell and back, but didn't like his on/off switch. I didn't know there was a second book until I finished this first one. I'm glad there is, though! Seemed like the first book ended abruptly...so I must find out what's going to happen now!! Slow Burn was a great, quick read and contained lots of action. It was the first VJ Chambers book I've read...on to the next!

I really enjoy this author. I found this book in her box set called Compelled. I got this 7 book set for .99 cents it's now $2.99 cents. The characters in this book is really very exciting and the book itself  is hard to put down. Its $3.99 by itself  and in the set of books you get more by the author for a $1.00 less. It's only 196 pages by still really good.

Writing is well done. Her characters are not perfect and have their flaws but we still fall in love with them. Great story not a cliff hanger
