Overview

It’s no kitchen secret that a slow cooker is a convenient method of preparing consistently delicious hot meals. And, it’s no secret that the advent of a slow cooker was the beginning of a cooking revolution in all corners of the world. This recipe book will help you become a savvy slow cooker chef right in your own kitchen.

Using a crock pot only requires that you do a little prepping, throw the ingredients in the cooker, set the temperature and the timer and be off to do whatever you have to do. When the time comes to eat - your dish is as ready as you are. These recipes give you lots of choices, whether you need a dish for breakfast that cooks overnight or a dinner for a pot-luck - you’ll find a suitable choice in these pages.

Dig out that slow cooker, choose your dish and take advantage of these scrumptious dishes.

Slow cooking has been a food preparation method for hundreds of years, mostly out of necessity, but the introduction of the electric slow cooker has made it a convenient and delicious way of pre-preparing meals that are delicious and healthy. Favorite recipes for meats, vegetables, and desserts have found their way to a slow cooker.

Cooking with low heat for several hours tenderizes tough, less expensive meats just as it enhances the flavor of more expensive cuts. Longer cooking times also make it easier to cook dried beans and lentils, which not only saves having to constantly oversee a boiling pot, but it reduces the amount of energy needed. Today’s slow cookers come in a variety of shapes, sizes and designs.

Selecting the best slow cooker takes a little knowledge. Here are some basic considerations to help when choosing a slow cooker:

 Size: The capacity of a slow cooker is important, because many recipes vary in the number of servings. Large slow cookers are needed for food that serves ten or more, but a smaller vessel is useful for less people. Today’s slow cookers offer many capacities ranging from one pint to seven quarts. Generally, a slow cooker should never be more three-fourths full so that enough space is allowed to actually cook evenly. It is wise to have a couple of sizes so that recipes of various yields can be used.

 Shape: Slow cookers usually come in either a round or oval shape. For dishes, such as whole chickens, roasts, tenderloins or casseroles, an oval shape is best. Dishes, such as stews, soups, desserts and vegetables work best in a round slow cooker. If you are a fan of slow-cooking, purchase both shapes in order to have the flexibility.

 Features: The slow cookers of today offer a wide selection of features, including digital timers that show the time remaining to cook, holding and serving temperatures that allow food to stay warm for serving, as well as start and stop timing devices that allow your dish to cook while you aren’t even there to turn it on. Features determine the cost of the unit, so decide what is best for your use and your budget before investing money in features that you may not use.

When choosing your slow cooker, consider these points before purchasing a specific unit:
 What types of food you will cook in a slow cooker.
 How many people you need to serve.
 Whether you will be at home to begin the cooking process or if you need for the unit to be self-starting and stopping.

Slow cooking is designed to provide an excellent choice for preparing hot meals for one or many - start using it today. You’ll be glad that you did!
