He pushes her sexual boundaries . . .

From the moment waitress Karina meets him in a New York bar, she knows James is different. Daring. Dominating. Awakened by his touch, Karina discovers a wild side she hadn't known existed and nothing is off limits.

She aches for more . . .

Editorial Reviews

Laura Antoniou
"Slow Surrender is the kind of seductive page turner that keeps you wondering not only will she or won't she, but when that next step in erotic enticement will occur. Cecilia Tan knows sex, knows power, and knows a how a real woman can get caught up in the drama of power, pain, pleasure and mystery - without losing herself in the process. This is 50 shades of genuine heat, from a master of the game."
Lisa Renee Jones
"Seductive fun not to be missed! Cecilia Tan will make all your sexy wishes come true!"
RT Book Reviews on SLOW SURRENDER
"4 1/2 stars! This is the BDSM novel all the other millionaire Dom heroes want to star in. Tan takes an overused trope and turns it into a dreamy, erotic fantasy that draws the reader down the rabbit hole along with Karina. The sex scenes are lush and erotic without attempting to outdo the last BDSM novel out there, and James' struggle to trust Karina enough to give up even an iota of his rigid control is palpable. Readers will be clamoring for the next book in the series."
Night Owl Reviews on SLOW SURRENDER
"Loved, loved Slow Surrender and am waiting on pins and needles for book two, Slow Seduction to come out...another brilliant outing from Cecelia Tan...her characters are full of life and emotion, and so believable. Definitely a keeper!"
Hope Tarr
"Move over EL James. Cecilia Tan's Slow Surrender is sinfully sweet and sublimely erotic. As with sipping a superb single-malt scotch served neat, you'll savor the slow burn as it builds to a deliciously unanticipated ... climax."

I wasn't a huge fan of this book. The premise is like most books in this genre - rich, mysterious man meets eager, working-class girl. They play some sensual games while hinting at some deeper inner angst of his. The story felt really obvious at the same time, it lacked a lot of the emotional depth that I usually look for in books. The main female character was really annoying with her ability to just accept everything. There was no internal struggle on her part and she was just way too accommodating. And the surprise twist at the end which reveals his identity was pretty obvious from the beginning.

I loved this book, hagte having to wait for #2

Ok so it started out at a 5 star, risky, sensuous, what will she do next, how far will she take it. But then he loves her so much he can't tell her his name? Come on. And then they leave you hanging when she's left behind? There was a sneak peak in the next book and there is still waffling back and forth with together apart stuff. But he still loves her? Don't think so. Sorry

This was a different kind of BDSM story even though I figured out his alter ego at the beginning. The book kept my interest all throughout. I could feel the chemistry between Karina and James, even though how he treated her at times seemed over the top. The ending I was not expecting, even though I figured out his alter ego at the beginning of the book. Having a dom who puts off his gratification to just make things more interesting for her was something that was different. Looking foward to the continuation of the series.

Sexy but Evasive SLOW SURRENDER is an erotic story of a girl who is struggling to find her place in the world and what happens when she meets a mysterious man who invites her to play a game.  Karina is finishing a doctorate degree in pre-Raphaelite art—but instead of being sure of what she wants to do with her life, she’s more confused than ever. She pursued a doctorate degree in the hopes of giving herself more time to discover who she was, but the extra time has only confused her more. She’s tired of trying to meet others’ expectations, especially when most of the people with expectations of her don’t try to understand who she is before making their demands. So when she meets a man who seems to know exactly who he is and he invites her to play a game with him, she quickly agrees. They embark on a sexual journey where the elusive man sets the rules and Karina can obey and be rewarded or disobey and accept her punishment. But the man, who Karina only knows as James (and isn’t sure if that is even his real name), is a complete mystery. While he expects honesty and openness from Karina, he is extremely protective of his own identity and only allows her the slightest of information.  I found SLOW SURRENDER to have a very similar feel to Fifty Shades of Grey, only with a slightly creepier hero. James is such a recluse and I felt that the lack of information made his requests and expectations less understandable and more in the realm of weirding me out. I’ve read several books where the rich hero asked the girl to get an STD test, but when Karina shows up for one of their first dates and finds herself in a gynecology exam instead of with James, I was disturbed. Not that he expected the test, because hello, they don’t know each other, but that he didn’t even bother to be there when she arrived or mention it in advance. Karina seems so comfortable with James because he’s asking probing questions and trying to understand her, but he won’t even tell her his name; how can she feel like she’s getting to know him? While the story is very sexual in nature, I think I would have found it a lot sexier if I felt like I was getting to know James while I was reading it. He remained such an enigma throughout the book that I just couldn’t quite understand the appeal. There were definitely times I’d get caught up in the tantalizing nature of the story, but then James would say or do something and I’d be back to square one. Also, I found Karina and James both having a passion for the arts to be a bit convenient and I got a little bored with their efforts to impress each other with their intellectual art talk.  All that being said, I felt completely blindsided by the ending and while I’m not a sentimental reader by nature, I’m really struggling with the desire to find out what’s going to happen to Karina and James! Usually, if I’m not that into the first book in the series, I’d rarely consider investing my time in continuing, but in this case I really felt robbed by the way things were left. I’m desperate to know what will happen and the only thing keeping me from jumping directly to SLOW SEDUCTION is the reviews that already warn me I won’t really know anything until SLOW SATISFACTION! Seriously? I’m usually pretty understanding when there are cliffhangers in a series but in a book that offers so little information about the hero I’m really torn about the requirement to read three books just to finally get my answers on why James is so private about his identity. I think the STRUCK BY LIGHTNING series has potential, but would really benefit from more depth to James—even if the depth doesn’t give away any details of who he is, at least show the reader what makes him tick. It was just a little too evasive for my taste and I need to be attracted to the hero to really get caught up in the story.  Readers who prefer a good, titillating chase over strong character development may enjoy the sexy and mysterious game in SLOW SURRENDER.  **Complimentary copy provided by the author/publisher for an honest review.

I'm sorry, but I couldn't get into this book. I thought it was a boring storyline. I was interested in the beginning but then the games were odd and there were too many. The main character felt naive and almost annoying (like others have said) too easy or young. I couldn't even get through half of the book. This book needs more feeling or depth to it. Maybe it gets better??

I get the idea of where you were trying to go with the story. You kept me interested in the beginning then the it started to drag in the middle on towards the end, it lost its edge and became predictable like all stories in this genra. I will read the next but only because I'd like to see what happens with Karina & James or whatever his name is...Lol. which means I'll probably read the first 2 chapters and the last 3 to sum it all up for me.

This is the first erotica/romance in awhile that i really enjoyed!! I loved the build-up of the romance, even if the reveal was a little predictable. Maybe was was looking for it, kinda like reading ahead. I learnt to "read people... connect the dots and create a picture". I did think Karina was too accepting but this was her adventure I guess. I was and will be looking for the sequel.

Yes it was obvious who he really was , but I still loved it ! I can't wait for the sequel !!!!

I have to admit, I will read the sequel, IF I remember to look for it a year from now.  In the beginning, the main female character was too easy.   Nobody is really that gullible and stupid, right?  Perfect for this character though.  Truth is, I always finish any book I start and sometimes I get the surprise this one gave me.  Two thirds into the book, the characters really come alive  and just as I began to enjoy it, it ended! Please write faster and don't make us wait for a year to finish this Cinderella story.......

I read this book in one afternoon and completely fell in love with these characters and their story. I will be looking forward to the second book.

“The game is very simple. I ask you to do something and you do it.” Karina is an Art History graduate student without a firm goal as to what to do with her education.  Against the backdrop of the last concert of a legendary musical performer’s career, she meets the mysterious male protagonist while temporarily filling in at a restaurant her sister manages. The night’s tribulations also include her new thesis advisor and a man with whom she recently had a job interview. While avoiding the other two men downstairs, the handsome, lone man upstairs begins a kinky flirtation.  From there, an unconventional relationship forms and builds right alongside the other big deal in Karina’s life, graduation.  Even though I’m a fan of this author since her Blue Moon/Masquerade days as well as a religious reader of her web serial Daron’s Guitar Chronicles, I wasn’t sure what to expect when she announced this project. This genre has resulted in a few gems and many duds.  In human history, completely new storytelling ended thousands of years ago.  Instead, writers build and re-tool tales of those who came before. If you are going to complain about originality, get in line behind the hausfrau who gave the Brothers Grimm Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty. The protagonist’s secret identity was obvious to me early on; I think, more from a familiarity with her work and not a shortfall in foreshadowing.  Two things I really did not like:  first, everyone, including the female protagonist blames her for the aftermath when she demands honesty.  Oh he’s so fragile, bull!  She is an underemployed graduate student trying to get her act together, he knows everything about her and possesses, literally everything including access to therapy.  The second thing I didn’t like is that the sequel does not come out for a year!  Highly recommended.

Is this couple hot? I love that Erica is a strong, successful woman who wants her independence by owning her own business. But when Blake comes into the picture her whole world spins. This book is hot, hot hot!

I was just okay for me. A bit irritating at times.

Love this but for one thing. I hate cliffhangers, continuing stories, so I never start a series until the conclusion has been released. I started this not knowing the frustration I was getting into, that I would have to wait until August '14 to finally get the answers! Not cool!
