Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Jeanna Potts
Are you in the mood for a cold tasty drink? Then this may be the book for you. Although the title says it is a drink recipe book, it has one recipe for freeze pops while the other twelve recipes are for drinks, even hot chocolate. This book begins with advice such as consulting with an adult and reading each recipe before beginning. It has another section with safety tips that warn about hot objects, tying back long hair, keeping the work area clean, and cleaning the area when finished. Other sections explain cooking terms and how to measure dry and liquid ingredients. This book also has a visual page of cooking tools. At the end of the book, there are a glossary of special ingredients, a metric conversion chart, an index, and a list of websites and a book for further recipes and information. There are colorful illustrations on each page, and each recipe has the ingredients and equipment highlighted in yellow beside the instructions. There are alternative ingredients in blue circles. The key action words are boldfaced to make the instructions easy to follow. It is exciting to find new ideas for healthy drinks, and most of the recipes have ingredients that people love, but some children may not be excited about drinking smoothies which contain spinach, cucumbers or mangos. Reviewer: Jeanna Potts; Ages 7 to 12.
