Overview

Small Animal Diagnostic Ultrasound outlines the basic physical principles of ultrasound, as well as imaging artifacts and the use of ultrasonography, in a logical body-systems approach. This second edition is completely revised and up-to-date, detailing current developments in ultrasonography. Two completely new chapters on thoracic and musculoskeletal ultrasound, as well as revised coverage of cardiology, CT/MR, and the reproductive system make this edition even more useful and clinically relevant. Full-color illustrations and color Doppler images of abdominal organs enhance and clarify discussions in the text.

The book contains predominantly black-and-white illustrations, with some color illustrations.

Editorial Reviews

David Sisson
This is a well-illustrated textbook on the emerging discipline of veterinary ultrasound. It is a thorough reference source for ultrasonography of all organ systems in dogs and cats. In addition, there are several chapters dedicated to ultrasonography of the heart, reproductive, and musculoskeletal systems of horses. The purpose is to provide a basic reference for diagnostic veterinary ultrasound studies. The book provides a general introduction to ultrasonographic imaging in veterinary medicine as well as a fairly comprehensive review of its applications in dogs, cats, and horses. The application of ultrasonography to other species is not included in this book. The targeted audience includes veterinary students, residents, and practitioners. The book will be very useful to veterinary radiologists and those interested in small animal internal medicine and cardiology. The authors are experienced and knowledgeable in their disciplines and provide a thorough overview of their respective areas. The book provides an excellent introduction to the use of ultrasonography in veterinary practice. Detailed discussions of examination technique for all organ systems in the dog and cat are included, and all chapters are generously illustrated with ultrasonic images of normal and pathologic anatomy. Most of the illustrations are of high quality, and there are a small number of color plates illustrating the color-flow Doppler imaging of the heart. This is a very timely and valuable reference textbook that should have great appeal to veterinary students, general practitioners, and specialists in veterinary medicine. It brings together a large body of knowledge that was not previously available in a singlereference source.
