Editorial Reviews

From the Publisher
“An endearing and humorous telling of the child-blankie bond.”
- Scholastic Parent & Child
Children's Literature - Sheilah Egan
Simple line drawings and large blue print accentuate the blue “blankie” featured in this small, sturdy board book that is sure to appeal to all little people. Small Bunny adores his Blue Blanket and it is part of his daily activities—every one of them from painting, to reading, to “…playing in the sandbox.” When Mommy announces that: “You both need a bath.” Small Bunny is not pleased with the prospect of being parted from his lovey, not even long enough for it to be washed and dried. Whimsical illustrations make it obvious that Blue Blanket makes it possible for Small Bunny to swing higher, read harder words, “…paint his best pictures,” and dig better in the sandbox. Mommy Bunny has a front-loading washer that takes 107 minutes to complete a wash cycle. Small Bunn is seen standing in front of it for all 107 of them. (Seems a bit long to me.) He sits a longing, vigil while waiting for it to dry on the line. Small Bunny does not like Blue Blanket in its sparkling, clean state; but after plenty of swinging, painting, reading, and playing “…was just the way it was before. Perfect.” This title will be “perfect” to share with little people, especially those who have their own “lovies.” Reviewer: Sheilah Egan; Ages 1 to 3.
Children's Literature - Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz
Even youngsters who are not attached to a favorite blanket can understand how Small Bunny loves his Blue Blanket. He takes it everywhere; he needs it because it helps him go higher on the swing, paint the best pictures, read his books. One day his mother calls him in, saying that both he and his blanket need a bath. Small Bunny thinks his Blue Blanket is perfect just the way it is. But after he is washed and dried, his mother insists on putting the blanket in the washing machine. Small Bunny watches and waits impatiently for 107 minutes. "Good as new," his mother says. Small Bunny does not like "new." It takes a lot of swinging, painting, reading, and playing until Blue Blanket is "perfect" again. A black line depicts mother, child, and the very few objects needed for this simple tale. Pale blue paint is added for bits like bath water and mother's apron. Darker blue is used for the large letters of the text and of course the beloved blanket. Reviewer: Ken Marantz and Sylvia Marantz

Oh the love affair between a little one and their blankie....there is nothing quite like it in our universe.  The peace, security and happiness that a blankie can bring cannot be measured by any standards.  This adorable little tale extrapolates on this theme and your little one, sitting on your lap right now, or curled up beside you in the bed, with his blankie tucked around him, can attest to the truth expounded in this book.

Small Bunny has a fluffy, blue friend called Blue Blanket.  They are best friends, inseparable and do everything together.  What does he do with his best friend?  Well sometimes they go to the park together and swing on the swings. Small Bunny puts Blue Blanket in his wagon and they trod off to experience wonderful adventures together.  Other times they paint creative pictures together. Blue Blanket helps him read the hardest words in his book and they just adore playing together in the sandpit, building imaginary places on lovely sunny days.

One day Mother calls to Small Bunny to come inside because it's time for his bath and Blue Blanket needs a good scrubbing off too.  Small Bunny disagrees because he thinks that Blue Blanket is just perfect the way he is.  Mother overrides that thought and alas,  Small Bunny is submerged in the tub and then blown dry.  Blue Blanket is thrust into the washing machine by Mother, with a promise that it will take only a minute to clean him up and he'll be as good as new again.  Poor Small Bunny waits for an eternity to get his best friends back and when he does?  Oh no spoilers here....the ending is perfect....and so is Blue Blanket.

The elemental line drawings are appealing with faint blue watercolours accentuating the images here and there.  Feeney's winsome illustrations are spot on for the text provided.

Small children with a blanket fetish will surely relate to how Small Bunny covets his most prized possession and wants to hug and love on it forever.

    A definite hit!

Purchased the book for my granddaughter Giorgi, who has a green blanket, and she had her mother/father read it to her at bedtime every night for over a week. She loves it.
