Overview

In this updated, revised, and expanded second edition of her bestselling book Small-Group Reading Instruction, author Beverly Tyner presents the Small-Group Differentiated Teaching Model, a classroom-tested and research-based model that provides effective reading instruction to meet the needs of each classroom's broad range of learners. As with the first edition, easy-to-use lesson plans and activities support the five stages of reading-emergent, beginning, fledgling, transitional, and independent-and the accompanying CD features a wide assortment of materials that will help you implement the lessons. While the basic foundations of the model are still in place, Tyner provides

Revised lesson plans that include more hands-on student involvement

Additional assessments to monitor students' progress

A chapter dedicated to the topic of effectively engaging the other students in independent activities as they relate to the stages of reading development

A scope and sequence for word study for each stage of reader

And much more! Although intended for primary-grade teachers and reading specialists, the book also offers a solid basis for teacher training and reading intervention programs.

This is a great reference book for teachers!

Beverly Tyner's book, "Small-Group Reading Instruction: A Differentiated Teaching Model for Beginning and Struggling Readers" is a wonderful reference book for teachers. It is full of suggestions and research based ideas for teaching reading. I bought it as a reference guide for my Master's paper and have decided that the information is so worthwhile that I am going to recommend it to my principal for the Professional Development Library at my school. The book also comes with a CD that has assessment, word study, and additional instructional materials on it. If you teach reading and are interested in differentiated instruction for your students, this is a great addition to your collection of teaching manuals!

I'm a first year teacher and love this book!!! I am teaching first grade and only wish that I had found it earlier in the school year. It's the next best thing to having an experienced teacher in the room with you. I'd recommend it to anyone!
