The telex is brief and to the point: One active-duty personnel found shot to death ten miles north of Fort Smith. Circumstances unknown. Found in a silver Porsche along an isolated forest road in Georgia, the victim was shot twice in the chest and once in the head. A professional hit. Clean. The crime scene suggests an ambush. Military police officer Jack Reacher is given the case. He calls his older brother, Colonel Joe Reacher, at the Pentagon for intel and taps Sergeant Frances Neagley to help him answer the big question: Who would kill a brilliant officer on the fast-track to greatness? For Jack Reacher, the answer hits home.

Joseph, a 350 year old gnome, sat on his favorite tree stump stroking his long grey beard. Early that morning, just as the sun was rising, Joseph had been walking to his well and enjoying the summer breeze when he spotted some deer tracks. That wasn't the strange thing though. Joseph saw deer all the time. The strange thing was that the deer tracks were made of pure diamond. So he followed the deer tracks into the woods. As it turns out, they weren't deer tracks at all.

Tom the gnome was sitting in his little gnome hut. Oh wait! I haven't introduced Tom yet. Tom is a small gnome. He is 300 years in gnome. In human years, that would be 75! Anyway, his pet chipmunk, Chip, was lying by Tom's feet. Usually Chip was always begging t get out. "What's wrong, ol' girl?" Tom questioned his chipmunk. Chip just let out a weak squeak. Tom ran over to Tim, his friend's, house.
