Smart Love: The Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Regulating, and Enjoying Your Childby Martha Heineman Pieper

Smart Love is a revolutionary approach to parenting that offers parents the first alternative to discipline and permissiveness, both of which harm children. When parents use Smart Love in place of discipline, their children will grow up happier, more successful and more caring. Smart Love also shows parents that many of the behaviors they worry about and feel they must interfere with (grabbing, not sharing) are actually age-appropriate behaviors that children will outgrow on their own. So Smart Love makes parenting more enjoyable for both parent and child.
Smart Love shows parents how the child’s mind changes from birth through adolescence and why these changes call for different parenting responses at different ages.
No matter what your child’s age, with the help of Smart Love principles you can implement more effective and compassionate parenting strate¬gies. Smart Love gives you a relaxed and realistic timetable for your child’s emotional development; identifies heretofore unrecognized developmental milestones and shows you how to help your child reach them; offers you a way to protect your child from missteps caused by her immaturity without resorting to the extremes of permissiveness or strict disciplinary measures (both of which are counterproductive); and makes it possible for you to raise a successful and truly happy child. Just as important, if your child is unhappy and difficult, the Smart Love principles will show you how to recapture her birthright of inner happiness.
