Editorial Reviews

Publishers Weekly
According to dating coach Kelly, "[W]e're actually living in the best possible time for dating," with new options that allow women to be the "hunters" rather than the "gatherers." Unlike Kingma's emotional/spiritual approach, Kelly's is unabashedly marketing oriented: it's about maximizing options and selling yourself. There's even packaging advice, in the form of makeup tips (minimal eyeliner, but lip gloss to appear kissable). (Jan.) Copyright 2005 Reed Business Information.
Library Journal
Kelly, a dating coach and author, encourages women to think about man hunting the same way they do job hunting and work smarter, not harder. To that end, her book urges readers to get out of their comfort zone, meet men, intelligently size them up, and know when to hold on or let go. Guidance for the "new era" of dating-which includes Internet dating and speed dating-is delivered in a lively, entertaining style. Interesting sidebars cover such topics as "What Men Watch in Women on First Dates" and "Mr. Wrong Case Studies." Illuminating and bound to circulate, this book is highly recommended. In her clever dating guide, columnist and author Straker (Sexy Jobs in the City: How To Find Your Dream Job Using the Rules of Dating) sketches 21 career types, including the man's look, basic personality, risks, perks, and what to expect when dating him. For instance, the biggest challenge of the Wall Street trader is getting him to commit, but he knows how to wine and dine. While the psychiatrist is a good listener, it's hard to get him to admit when he's wrong. Straker includes key words and phrases for each occupation that will help readers speak the same language. Fun yet insightful and hard to put down, this book is destined to be a hit. Highly recommended for all libraries. Copyright 2006 Reed Business Information.

Liz is AWESOME!!! I took her advice and read her book, 'SMART Man Hunting.' Not only did I become a smart man hunter, I became a fiancé and will be married in a year! Liz, you're a Godsend!

I love the abbreviated versions of men in this book. And yes, I have dated a few of those in my time. I can't wait to find that 'Bachelor Available!' Thank you Liz for the fun guy types and for the encouraging words! It is so hard to date in Washington DC, but I am going to get back out there with your new man hunting ideas.

This book helped me know when to say Next faster! Smart Man Hunting helps you read the signs so you can recognize who might be Mr. Right and who is probably Mr. Wrong from the get-go. Thank you for the dating timesavers Liz!

This book is so clever. The code names make me laugh. It is way cool. I also love the fact that the author has been through many of these dating scenarios and gives great advice for how to handle different types of men. Smart Man Hunting is awesome!

Liz's book gives us what we all need in life about important matters and that is focus. It is an honest approach to a very serious matter. If a person is truly dating to meet a spouse, it is even more crucial to spend the time with the right guy.

What is great about Smart Man Hunting is that it helps one read the road signs, so that they can identify the path, forks in the road and make appropriate decisions. It is certainly not about wasting time manipulating a man or controlling a situation.

I found this dating book helpful. The Keeper of the Fire and other ABCs - I loved the description of the Justifying Juggler guy to run from--I had started seeing one of those. :-)

What I like best about this new book is that it's in a very easy to follow format, it's direct, and most of all it's hopeful. I also love that Liz does not advocate being manipulative, which so many other guides do.

¿SMART Man Hunting¿ presents dating options and strategies in a very practical and entertaining way. As a single man, I found that the advice and personalized stories provided me with insights into what women are often thinking about in a dating relationship, which helps me refine my approach. In addition, the book makes a great gift for my single female friends as well as a fun topic of conversation.

What a refreshing change to read this light-hearted dating advice book! Liz Kelly shares true stories that will make you laugh out loud. I can see myself in so many of these stories. Both men and women will get a kick out of this book!

Near as I can tell, I qualify as what Liz Kelly terms a "Dysfunctional Guy with Issues." Her advice for man-hunting women meeting someone like me: avoid them. What about 35-year-old man-hunting women: aren't they obversely "Dysfunctional Gals with Issues?" Ms. Kelly's text is humorous at times, notwithstanding the deadly seriousness that most single-but-looking-for-the-perfect-mate women (and perhaps men) attach to the task of man hunting. I am simultaneously intrigued and repulsed by the subject and the advice Ms. Kelly furnishes. For the person who takes what Ms. Kelly advises with a grain of salt--someone like me--Ms. Kelly's text is very useful nevertheless as an indicator of what some man-hunting women (married or single) might be thinking/strategizing as they prowl the local watering holes or in-and-out internet dating sites. Such information could prove very useful in dealing with such calculating man-hunters. I would recommend Ms. Kelly's text as a call to arms for those of us who fail to fit rather neatly within Ms. Kelly's classification system. Informed is forewarned. Buy the book and beware--after all, there are plenty of man-eating man-hunters out there!

How many times have we read advice for the lovelorn that got us nowhere? At last, this book gives help that actually works-- at least it did for me! Within two weeks of following Ms. Kelly's tips, I had six dates! Maybe some day I'll find Mr. Right!

A terrific book and quick read regarding dating in today's world. Anyone dating out there would enjoy it - it is witty, interesing and an easy read. The new rules begin.

With a lighthearted touch and an appealing sense of humor, Liz H. Kelly offers a handbook for today's dating scene. Using examples from personal experience and interviews with friends and acquaintances, Liz Kelly has compiled a manual for women over 30 who are looking for a mate. She has devised convenient codes to describe different personality types of available men and provides questions to ask before making serious moves. She also reviews and assesses the mechanics of meeting and dating in today¿s world, including internet options and commercial match-making ventures. The book is great fun to read, focusing on true stories that will make you laugh and feel not so alone out there in the dating world.
