"I'll leave as soon as you give me what I want."

In another time and place, that might have a nice ring to it. But standing in a Chicago hotel room with a cub reporter as obstinate as she is hot, FBI agent Derek Knight knows he has to play it charming. Something like, "By holding on to that evidence, you're interfering with FBI business, ma'am, and by the way, those long, gorgeous legs of yours would look awfully good wrapped around my. . ." Sure, losing all sense of professionalism may not help his career, but the off-duty perks would be sensational. . .

"Yeah, right, you're an FBI agent. And I can bake a cake from scratch."

Reese Hampton is not giving up the envelope she found in her rental car--the one with the story that could take her from journalistic Siberia straight to the front page. She'll just have to outsmart the certifiably insane Fed with the movie-star good looks. Dodge and weave. Distract and bed. No! Bad hormones, bad! Still, spending time with that unbelievably broad chest up close and personal might just add, um, depth to her story. If only she can let her robe down while keeping her guard up. . .

    Listen here!

ok forget the other reviews, and take it from someone who's read all of Erin's books. This one is hot! I loved it. Of course you have got to be someone who's looking for a steamy sex session not only once in the book but all over the book with also a good background. if you do read this book and enjoy it, i also recommend Bad Boys in Black Ties because its the follow up for two other agents, and it was oh yeah hot, and cute. a little advice, Immediately you can see the sexual tension between the main characters and to me i like that, because who wants to wait for the good stuff in the end and it be like a few pages, not me. But with this there's no time to waste and its not just a quick romp you also get background and feelings from the characters. You just have to like those kind of romance books where it is action packed and cute too.

This is my first full book by Erin. It was okay...not too deep. Quick and easy read but nothing to write home about.

    a complete disappointment...

Don't get me wrong, I LOVE Erin's work...I had even read her entry for Foster's Brava contest two or so years back. A Date with the Other Side was fantastic Houston, We Have a Problem was great fun to read and Bad Boys Online was extremely entertaining. So, I decided to pick up Smart Mouth, expecting something fabulous just like all her other books. The plot seemed well developed, the chemistry was set in the blurb on the back, but you can imagine my surprise when no further than 40 pages in, I was COMPLETELY annoyed with the heroine, Reese. Not only does she already seem too stupid despite her supposedly witty and 'smart mouth', her libido barely has any reason to go into overdrive. The hero, though pretty likeable comes off immediately as incompetent. I just don't buy him as a federal agent...he's too weak-willed. Unfortunately, because the characters, mainly Reese, were such a disappointment in the personality category, I just can't bring myself to finish it. I'm sorry to say that reading past the third or second chapter would be excrutiatingly painful. This book was a huge let down. McCarthy has such talent, I don't know why the characters here were so under developed.

    A very good book

This is the first book I read from Erin McCarthy, and I loved it. The day after I got this book, I went out to buy the rest of her books that I could find. I think the attraction between Reese and Derek is instantaneous, ever since he saw her legs and she saw him. I recommend it to anyone who wants a good romance with a little action going on.

    what a trashy book

after reading the first 6 books in the stephanie plum series i wanted a little break and decided to look for a good quick read. i came across this title and saw the great reviews people gave it so i picked it up. the back cover sounded interesting...but i barely got 50 pages into the book and these two total strangers are going at it. the girl is complete trash and i feel like im reading porn here. the plot was interesting enough i dont see why this author thought she had to trash it up to make it interesting. at least if youre gonna write a trashy book, put a trashy cover on it so ppl like me know to stay away. i know im using the word trash alot but seriously thats the best word that comes to mind.

    Sizzling, funny, sexy

Reese Hampton is a reporter for a small East Coast newspaper who always gets stuck writing fluff. She gets her chance to change that when an FBI informant accidentally leaves an envelope in her rental car while she¿s on a trip to cover a society wedding. FBI agent Derek Knight ends up chasing the gorgeous, long-legged woman, trying to get the envelope back before his boss finds out about this latest screw-up. Reese isn¿t sure if he¿s a thief or just a crazy man, but she¿s not planning to stick around long enough to find out. After things finally get straightened out and she¿s convinced that Derek really is an FBI agent, Reese discovers that she actually does have Derek¿s envelope. She has to know what¿s inside! As soon as Reese opens it, she sees the information as her ticket to the story that will get her taken seriously as a reporter. All she has to do is convince mouthwatering, sexy Derek that they need to work together. And Derek isn¿t going to be easy to convince! I love the chemistry between Reese and Derek but most of all I love the way Reese always says what she thinks without worrying a bit about what anyone might think. SMART MOUTH is a funny, sexy story with plenty of action and great characters. I¿m so glad Erin McCarthy has written a full-length novel, and it¿s every bit as much fun as her novellas!

Another Great Book by Erin McCarthy

This is another wonderful book by Erin McCarthy. The chemistry between her characters were wonderful. I enjoyed reading how Reese and Derek were at cross purposes about the evidence. Derek is an FBI agent and Reese accidently gets an envelope that he needs. She's a reporter who knows she's on to a career making story and she isn't letting it pass her by. The book was funny and kept my interest the whole way through. I can't wait to read more books by her.

    Laugh Out Loud Funny

Mr. McCarthy is definitely one of the new 'rising stars' of contemporary romance. Her likable characters combined with witty and vivid dialogue will have you turning the page all night. Reese, a reporter with no great features to her name, finally gets a break when critical evidence in an FBI investigation, led by Derek, literally falls into her hands. Reese is a very strong-willed lady who knows what she wants, both in bed and out. Not only does she have a Smart Mouth, she is just plain smart, and Derek has his hands full trying to run his investigation and make sure Reese doesn't ruin it by printing her exclusive story too early. The sex is hot, steamy and abundant in this must read by Erin McCarthy.

This book is a must read!

When FBI agent Derek Knight realizes that his informant left evidence for Derek in the wrong rental car and a very sexy woman is about to drive away with the evidence, he tries to get it back but instead he ends up scaring her away. Journalist Reese Hampton thinks it's too bad that this hot hunk of a man who approaches her turns out to be some kind of creepy stalker and she takes off in the car as fast as possible. When they finally meet up again and things are explained, Reese decides that she should work with Derek to help him bring down the drug manufacturing company that is fixing prices and in return she gets first dibs on the news story that could turn her career around. And it doesn't hurt that they both have the hots for each other. What could be wrong with indulging in a little fling while working on the case?____________________ Both Derek and Reese were lovable, interesting characters. If you read this book, be ready for laugh out loud scenes, witty dialogue, sizzling chemistry and steamy love scenes! The suspense was very well written and well plotted. I couldn't put this book down! This book is a sexy, fun-filled ride from start to finish!____________________ Erin McCarthy is fast becoming one of my favorite authors. SMART MOUTH is a not to be missed book! If you haven't read anything by Erin McCarthy yet, pick this one up and see for yourself what a great author she is. I know you'll want to pick up the rest of her books!

Smart Mouth is a must have book

Smart Mouth by Erin McCarthy is a hysterically funny and no holds bar sexy read. All Derek Knight, FBI agent wants is the evidence his informant left for him in a rental car. He realizes that the car he is searching is the wrong one. The car he should be searching is being driven away by the best set of legs on woman. Reese Hampton, reporter for a rag magazine is in town to cover a wedding. She has this hunky man chasing her for this envelope she found in her rental car. Derek follows Reese to her hotel room to bargain for the evidence. He realizes the wants more from Reese then the evidence she is holding as a bargaining chip. Reese thinks if she can get Derek to agree to work together on this case they can get to know each other more intimately and she will get the story to make her career. From their first meeting Derek and Reese¿s chemistry is off the charts. Their verbal exchanges are fast pace, so funny that you can only laugh out loud and keep a permanent smile on your face. They work well as a team in business and out. Erin McCarthy is a fresh face in the writing field. She is an auto buy for me.

    Smart Mouth

Things go from bad to worse when FBI agent Derek Knight loses the evidence he needs for a case he has been trying to crack for months. But thanks to a colorblind informant, the evidence is placed in the wrong car. Derek goes after the evidence, but the woman that has the evidence, Reese Hampton is too sexy for his peace of mind and to make matters worse she is a reporter. Reese Hampton wasnt too happy about going to Chicago to cover the society wedding for her newspaper, when the story of a lifetime falls into her lap. Reese needs to convince Derek that they should work together and she can finally leave that rag of a newspaper she writes for and Derek can get his career back on track. Erin McCarthy is one of my favorite new authors from the past year. Her stories are hot enough to set a five alarm fire. I highly recommend this book.

SMART MOUTH - the title says it all

FBI Agent Derek Knight can NOT believe his luck. He finally convinces his informant inside Delco Pharmaceuticals to get him copies of written documents that he needs to help blow his price fixing case wide open and what happens? The guy puts the documents in the wrong car. While he is sitting in the red car nearly tearing it apart in his search, the luscious, long legged beauty that he was eyeing just a moment ago is climbing into the green car which contains his evidence. There is only one thing he can do. Get it back from her any way he can. NEWARK NEWS reporter Reese Hampton can NOT believe her luck. After being chased all over Chicago by a crazy madman who turns out to be an FBI Agent, her reporter instincts demand that she find out what is in the envelope that he is so desperate to obtain. She knows that the documents she holds in her hands are her ticket to a job with a ¿real¿ newspaper. When Derek tracks her down and demands that she return the envelope to him she knows that there is only one thing she can do. Hold onto that envelope, and Derek, any way she can. Erin McCarthy¿s debut full length title is funny, witty, fast paced, sizzling hot and just a plain good read. From the very first paragraph it is easy to see that nothing about this book is going to be predictable. Hang onto your seat for this one folks because Reese and Derek are going to take you on a ride that you will never forget. If you liked BAD BOYS ONLINE you¿re going to love SMART MOUTH.

    Smart Mouth

Derek had not been having an easy time. He's smart enough to realize that one more screw up and his boss would have him pushing papers for the rest of his career. So when a woman, with legs that went on for miles, got behind the wheel of his rented car, he knew this was not going to be good. Reese couldn't believe how gorgeous this man was and she couldn't believe she was sizing up a would-be attacker; he came from out of nowhere and now he wants her car. Reese runs, but not before she inflicts him some bodily harm. Derek can't let the woman out of his sight; she has papers in her possession that an informant meant for him. With those papers, his latest case could be blown wide open; without them, his boss would get his wish. Reese is stunned when Derek shows up at her hotel room. She's even more stunned and excited by the papers she found in the car; a pharmaceutical company is purposely increasing their prices and not allowing generic brands to be made. With this kind of information she could really jump-start her non-existent career as a reporter. Reese now had to figure out a way to get this hunky FBI agent to give her an exclusive. With the luck he'd been having, Derek should have known getting the papers back from Reese wasn't going to be easy. Reese had four older brothers growing up; compromise is not in her vocabulary. She will get this story, even if she has to stretch the truth or go behind Derek's back to do so. Derek isn't trying to keep Reese in the dark; there are just some things that he can't tell her. Reese doesn't 'want' to understand this. Derek can't keep Reese out of his case and Reese can't get Derek to give her much information, but they're having a blast getting to know each other better. Professionalism out the window, he wanted this woman badly and from the looks she's been giving him, she wants him just as much. Neither of them expected that sex could be fun and wild, as well as tender and sweet. They both know they need to step back or risk heartbreak, yet neither can seem to do it. When this case is finally over, what would become of them? Smart Mouth is a hilarious and exceptionally well written story. Erin McCarthy brings this book to life with an appealing plot, comical dialog and characters that are fun and likable. Reese and Derek make a combination of a south-mouthed heroine and a less than by the book hero. They're interactions will have readers laughing out loud. I enjoyed this book immensely and can't wait for Erin's next book.
