Comprised of public domain tracks from the early '50s that have been remastered from vinyl sources, this interestingly assembled compilation still has decent sound and contains enough relative obscurities to make it well worth a listen. Among the highlights are "Allentown Jail," Lita Roza's maudlin love song about a man who steals an expensive diamond for his girlfriend and ends up in the pokey, the feisty "Kiss of Fire" by Georgia Gibbs, the Mills Brothers' "The Glow Worm," and Max Bygraves' ambitious song suite, "Cowpuncher's Cantata."
