Going international all started with a blog post, which led to a book deal with Wiley, which in turn resulted in the Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog book and its follow-up Smashing WordPress Thems: Making WordPress Beautiful, and an even stronger voice in the WordPress community. You’re holding the second edition of critically acclaimed Smashing WordPress: Beyond the Blog in your hands right now. This is really just the beginning since that word obsession keeps Thord spewing out new stuff.

When not obsessed with words, Thord and friends are building cool websites using WordPress at his web design firm Odd Alice. He also edits magazines and writes freelance articles for both print and web publications, in both Swedish and English. You can follow everything Thord on http://tdh.me.

I usually judge a technical book by its ability to answer my questions thoroughly and accurately, and this book does just that. I've had a WordPress blog for quite a while, but I didn't understand the general components of the WordPress architecture or how I should really be using my blog site. This book started out with the installation and general architecture, but then dove into all the special bits that really make WordPress explode. WordPress is a very open and accommodating platform, which can be intimidating if you don't understand what you're doing. This book breaks that barrier. It not only tells you how to set up an existing template, but also how to tweak it or even develop your own! For those who are starting out or even for those who are trying to get more out of an existing site, this book is a good reference without the technical intimidation.

I was disappointed that I discovered after downloading this book (non-refundable on Nook) the book is targeted to version 2.8. I figured that since 3.0 was into beta at the time of publishing it would cover some of the issues I'm running into with 3.0, but no such luck. I'm sure there is plenty of good information that is still usable in here; what I've looked at thus far seems quite useful to a moderate-strong PHP developer. I guess this is a lesson for this new Nook owner: always read the free preview, and carefully.

This is the ultimate book for developers who want to develope their own themes, plugins, widgets and anything else custom in Wordpress. This will take you step by step in teaching you how to develope any type of theme, moving dynamic sidebars, writing and using custom widgets. Basically for the advanced Wordpress user who wants to use Wordpress in a on-traditional way, or to use it as a fully functioning CMS. If you are looking at this book, you no doublt know of Smashing Magazine's expertise in all things design. I suggest you buy this immedietly. adaptivewebdesign.net

I downloaded the free sample and it clearly states its for version 2.8, NOT 3.1 as indicated in the Overview, so beware. Hopefully this gets fixed soon.
