Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Tim Whitney
Smiffy Blue is a bumbling detective with a strange sense of logic and a lot of luck as he takes on four cases with his sidekick Jeremy Joe and his faithful dog, Dog. Young readers will delight in the slapstick silliness and the amusing names of the people that Smiffy interrogates as he strives to solve each crime. They can also stay one step ahead of Smiffy in identifying the criminal through clues in the illustrations by Sims.
School Library Journal
Gr 2-4-Detective Smiffy Blue, his assistant Jeremy Joe, and Smiffy's dog, Dog, set out to solve crimes in these four slapstick stories. The action takes place in and around Doober City, where readers meet citizens such as Doc Terdoom, Mayor Matt Tropolis, and hotel clerk Chubby Checkin. Each chapter is a self-contained mystery easily solved via the blatant visual clue provided. Hints reside in the text as well, but readers are easily sidetracked by the numerous plays on words and colorful characters. Beginning chapter-book readers will enjoy following clues to the conclusion of each selection and will smile at the humorous blue-and-black illustrations that perfectly complement the text.-Barbara McGinn, Oak Hill Elementary School, Severna Park, MD

    A wonderful book for children

When my son came home with this book from his school library for a book report, I was unsure as to the content. I was most pleasantly surprised. He was able to read it with almost no help and it kept his mind interested.
