Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Susie Wilde
I initially questioned the observation that babies love to stare at the visages of other infants until I saw my own babies mesmerized by the faces of others. Two new board books by Robert Intrater that contain photos which focus on babies and a rhythmic text are Peek-A-Boo! and Smile!
Children's Literature - Jeanne K. Pettenati
This six-inch board book contains ten pages of smiling baby faces. Like its companion volume Peek-A-Boo, the author does a good job of featuring children from diverse ethnic backgrounds. The charming photographs will appeal to the youngest children, who enjoy seeing and watching other babies. And these babies are all happy babies with very expressive faces. The author provides a few words on each page, all of which center around the act of smiling. The book should help kids connect the concept of smiling with feeling happy. In addition, the author uses the words grin, chuckle and laugh; so that the idea that there are more ways than one to express something comes through. The six-inch size is a positive feature because it is small enough so that young children can hold it themselves but large enough so that the photographs will engage their attention. This book is part of the publisher's "Baby Faces" series.
School Library Journal
PreSTwo board books that preschoolers will love, particularly when snuggled in the lap of a loved one. Each page is filled with a color photo of a tot responding in some way to the photographer. Toothy grins and yawns, bright eyes, pouts, and tears deliver reinforcement for the spare text that echoes what all parents (and photographers) say and play to get that picture-perfect response; e.g., "Look at the birdie" and "Peek-a-boo! I love you." Toddlers love looking at other children and these titles hold plenty of interest for them.Susan Garland, Maynard Public Library, MA
