Can't tell the difference between (:-( and :-c ? Godin attempts to order the emoticon universe--those crazy combinations of keyboard characters that help our electronic mail express something other than factoids and opinions. Godin thankfully is :-> or sarcastic throughout and avoids a highbrow approach. Robin Williams's foreword explains the significance of these online characters by stating matter of factly, ``I don't flirt with guys online who put their apostrophes in the wrong place or who scatter ellipses throughout their sentences. It's like greasy hair or a bad smell.'' Godin's farcical postscript on the history of emoticons is so absurd that it could be true. The index--an alphabetical listing as well as by emoticon--is truly utilitarian when you're looking for the right comment to some electronic message. Without this dictionary within grasp, I couldn't compose an electronic letter. It helps me ; ).
