Good story!

A pretty good read. Part 2 of the Wildwood series where we follow Delilah and Lane in their quest for love. The arcing storyline involving the arson cases is still in play as well as a new investigator who may be more involved as the series progresses. As I said, it is a pretty good read, 160 pages on the nook icon on my computer (cover, contents, etc.) with an additional 20 pages of excerpts from the next in the series, two excerpts from books written by other people, an ad from Avon Books, ... I really think the actual story could have used those 20 pages to expand on things and maybe help the ending not seem so rushed. I'm not sure it is as good as the first book but it is an easy way to kill a few hours on a rainy afternoon. I will most likely purchase the third book as I like Wren and Tate sounds yummy (and to be honest Umberto Eco, while intellectually stimulating, never has yummy men...).

A great friends to lovers story... Book two of the Wildwood series... Lane Weston is a town deputy that is set on keeping everyone safe, while being the best older brother he can be. He put time and energy into everything he does for everyone else, but fails to see what he needs for himself. But living in the small town of Wildwood, there is bound to be someone that sees the neglect to himself. Delilah Moore has been a family friend for as long as she could remember and Lane's sister business partner and friend. She also dated Lane's younger brother, West. And she didn't feel that that short time with West should stop her from going after what she really want... LANE. Delilah and Lane seemed to be the only two people that didn't want to admit to their feelings and while Delilah persisted, Lane pushed her away. The inner issues that the two had needed to be overcome before they could move forward, and things change when there is danger and uncertainty thrown in. No matter what, friendship comes first in the story and that seems to be what is needed at times. This story truly opened up the barriers on a few issues and truly made one think about the consequences that come with every day life choices. Can't wait to read the next installment.

“Smolder” is the second book in Karen Erickson’s “Wildwood” series, and it was fantastic. This book focuses on Lane, an incredibly loyal deputy in a small town who wants the one person he thinks he does not deserve, and Delilah, the girl who wants Lane but will not wait any longer for Lane to make up his mind. Once again, Karen has delivered amazing characters, an awesome story, and a few extra twists and turns to keep this reader guessing. I love Karen’s series and how she gives the reader glimpses into other characters, making a reader count down the days until the next book in the series is released. I finished “Ignite,” and really enjoyed West's & Harper's, but I could not wait for Lane’s & Delilah’s story. I think it was even better then the first book (although, I strongly suggest you start with Ignite so you understand the entire story, and also so you can watch the chemistry between Lane & Delilah ignite - yes, pun intended!). And now, I cannot wait to read Wren’s & Tate’s story! *I was given an advanced copy of this story in exchange for an honest review.

I can't stand how cute Lane and Delilah are! Watching them dance around each other for so long made the pay-off extra special...especially since this big, bad deputy was trying his hardest to resist this tiny little minx of a dancer. The love scenes were hot (like a 5-alarm fire - get it...there's an arsonist?), but the scenes where the two of them were themselves were super sweet. The beginning of their relationship was like a sweet and salty snack - Lane would be not nice but then they would have a touching moment and you'd understand how much he cared. Erickson has created such a great cast of characters that mesh so well, I want to jump in and be friends with them, too! I want to learn more about why their father is such a jerk, I want Wren to find love, I want to learn more about Holden. I just want more! Also, I'm pretty sure I know who the arsonist is...but I'll be a good reviewer and not mention names. My only negative comment was that this was too short! Not in a bad way, in a 'I want to know everything about Delilah and Lane and I want to know every part of their relationship' good kind of way. Can't wait to get my hands on Torch!

***Review posted on The Eater of Books! blog*** Smolder by Karen Erickson Book Two of the Wildwood series Publisher: Avon Publication Date: June 21, 2016 Rating: 4 stars Source: eARC from Edelweiss ***Warning: this is an adult book, and for the eyes of mature readers*** Summary (from Goodreads): Lane Gallagher wants Delilah Moore—bad. He’s imagined the sexy brunette in his bed more times than he can count. She’s everything he’s ever wanted, but the only problem is . . . She’s his brother’s ex. For years, the stoic sheriff’s deputy has fantasized about the sweet, bubbly dance teacher who stirs his deepest desires. But Lane’s too loyal to ever move in on forbidden territory and he knows that while he can look, he definitely can’t touch. Fighting his attraction to Delilah is nearly impossible, but the infuriating—and incredibly sexy—woman seems determined to drive him crazy. And she’s bringing him to his knees. One smoldering kiss at a time. What I Liked: I liked several of Karen Erickson's Brazen novels (specifically, the Game For It series), and I've read some of her books under her pseudonym, Monica Murphy. So when I was presented the opportunity to help reveal the cover of Smolder, I jumped at the chance, and found that I was also interested in reading the book. Usually I do not read books in which we're dealing with a girl who dated one brother and is interested in another brother. But that aspect bothered me a lot less than I expected, and I really liked the book as a whole. Delilah has been throwing hints - and herself - at Lane Gallagher for quite some time now. Both of them are really attracted to each other, but Lane won't make a move. Part of it is because she used to date West, Lane's younger brother. But there is so much more, and Delilah wants to be there for Lane, if he'll let her. The synopsis of this book makes it seem like Lane is holding out on Delilah (and himself, and all of Wildwood) because Delilah used to date West, Lane's younger brother, and Lane wouldn't dare date a girl his brother used to date. That's actually not really the case - well, it's not as bad and as big as the synopsis makes it. YES, Lane doesn't want to make a move on Delilah, out of brotherly loyalty and his gentlemanly values (seriously, Lane is quite the gentleman). But there is more to it - Lane has commitment issues that go back to his childhood. Usually I don't go near books that involve a girl and two brothers, even if it's one brother dated in the past, one now. And let's be real, the synopsis of this book makes it seem like the whole Delilah-dated-West thing is a deal-breaker in this book. It's not, and here's why: Delilah and West dated in high school, when they were young teens. They never had sex, they never had butterflies or cute feelings, or anything like that. Delilah was interested in Lane even then, and she and West didn't date for long at all. And it was during high school. So, you see why I was fine with the past brother dating thing. Because it was a lot less of a thing than the synopsis made it out to be. Phew! Lane, oh Lane. He reminded me of Cal, from Megan Erickson's Dirty Thoughts (no, the authors are not related). Lane is irritable and grumpy, a bit of a loner, though a sexy one. Read the rest of my review on my blog, The Eater of Books! - eaterofbooks DOT blogspot DOT com :)

Oh stubborn Lane. Delilah has always loved Lane but she can’t seem to get him to pay attention to her. She is successful businesswoman and believes in going after what she wants but after several failed attempts, will she finally give up on Lane? Lane has loved Delilah for years but the fact that she dated his brother and his example of a relationship with his parents truly holds him back. He is a strong alpha male that protects the town as a deputy but doesn’t feel he is allowed true happiness. Will Delilah finally break through his walls? Or will he give up the one thing that would make him truly happy? This is a fun, sexy romance with a bit of suspense thrown in. I wanted to smack Lane more than once!

This is the 2nd book in The Wildwood series. There was mention of Delilah and Lane in the first book so I couldn't wait to read their story! Delilah and Lane have always danced around their feelings for each other and after multiple almost moments, they finally give in to a night of passion! Even after, Lane is so convinced that he's not good enough for Delilah and that he'll just end up treating her bad like his dad treated his mom that he still keeps running away! Will he finally wake up and realize that he's not his dad and give him and Delilah a chance at happiness before it's too late?! I enjoyed reading to find out! So far I've loved all of Karen's/Monicas books and she doesn't disappoint! I read this book in under a day and I can't wait to read Wren and Tate's story in the 3rd book in the series! I received an Early copy in exchange for my honest review.

4.5 Stars This is book 2 in The Wildwood series and it stars Lane Gallagher and Delilah Moore. She's loved Lane since high school. She's thrown herself at him more times than she could count. He NEVER takes her up on it. She always says it's the last time...until the next time. When Lane discovers why he has all these issues with commitment, will it be too late to finally claim the woman he's always wanted but never felt good enough to have? The story line was great and the characters were well developed. Delilah is sweet, pretty and loves Lane with the passion but she also comes off as a little airhead-ish. Sure, she can cook and she owns her own dance studio but other than that, there's not much going on upstairs, between the ears. In my opinion, I would expect Lane to be with a stronger woman. Regardless, it is still a great story. I'm definitely looking forward to book 3 in this fantastic series. Received a copy via Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review. I was not compensated for my review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinion expressed is my own.

I loved book one, IGNITE, but SMOLDER set the bar a little higher. Delilah and Lane are the couple that you want to root for. They would just be so perfect together if Lane would ever just GIVE. IN. Ugh that man is infuriating, but is such a deliciously, sweet way. There is a lot of push and pull with these two. Delilah is in full force, but Lane has is reservations about the two of them. However, the table turn a bit. When Lane gives in just a bit we see Delilah start to run. And in the end, it's anyone's guess as to who will be standing. SMOLDER packs a huge punch for a shorter read. Delilah and Lane's characters were both fleshed out incredibly well and the entire world that Ms. Erickson has built with the supporting characters is enticing and relatable. I would love to see more stories from the Wildwood group. This book was highly enjoyable, and a perfect beach read for me. I will be waiting not so impatiently for the third Gallagher brother's book. while still reveling in the emotional impact from SMOLDER. Happy Reading! *ARC provided by the publisher in exchange for an honest review*

Lane is probably my fav so far in this series! I love the big brooding man that struggles with the fact that he has completely fallen in love! Lane and Delilah have been dancing around each other long enough. You know things are going to get hot when they finally get together! Great writing and great story. I'm enjoying the ongoing arsonist arc through the series - because I am dying to know who it is!!

Since my maiden voyage into the world of contemporary romance many moons ago, Karen Erickson has been one of my favorite authors. Smolder is her latest novel, and it is the second book in the Wildwood series. It is a quick-paced romance that can be enjoyed as a standalone. For years, dance instructor Delilah Moore has crushed on deputy sheriff Lane Gallagher, her best friend's older brother. Lane has secretly harbored feelings for Delilah as well, but his past experiences with regards to love, only adds to his reluctance to pursue something more. The fact that Delilah went out on a few dates with Lane's younger brother years ago, is only one of his many hang-ups. With that said, they have a flirtatious and smoldering type of thing going on that never seems to move forward. Their attraction is tangible and in desperate need of fulfillment. Finally, they give in to their desires, and the outcome is more than they both could have ever imagined. Wow, what a steamy read! This is both a hot and sexy love story, and Delilah and Lane have smoldering chemistry. Ms. Erickson does a wonderful job of evolving their longing into a relationship. I found Lane’s apprehension about his needs in bedroom and his fear of commitment to be truly genuine. In addition, the ending will leave you smiling from ear to ear. Overall, this is a well-written book and series that should definitely be added to your TBR list. Complimentary copy provided by the author in exchange for an honest review.

3.5 stars---SMOLDER is the second installment in Karen Erickson’s adult, contemporary WILDWOOD romance series focusing on the men and women of Wildwood, California but especially the Gallagher family of brothers, and their sister Wren. This is sheriff’s deputy Lane Gallagher, and dance instructor Delilah Moore’s story line. Lane and Delilah were first introduced in book one-IGNITE. SMOLDER can be read as a stand alone without any difficulty although there is a continuing plot line that runs through each consecutive installment. SMOLDER picks up immediately after the events of book one. Told from dual third person perspectives (Lane and Delilah) SMOLDER follows the friends to lovers, best friend’s brother relationship between Lane and Delilah, as well as the search for a suspected arsonist who has increased the frequency of suspicious fires. Delilah is a woman who has been in love with Lane Gallagher most of her life but Lane is a man who believes he is not worthy of Delilah’s love. His father’s history of infidelity and neglect has left Lane feeling less than capable of finding his happily ever after although Delilah is the woman that calls to his heart. When Delilah makes the first move Lane is ready to run in the other direction but a call about another suspicious fire finds our hero running –this time with an excuse. What ensues is the push and pull between two people who have loved one another from afar but have been unable to make the move in a permanent direction because Lane Gallagher does not want to be a failure. The $ex scenes are intimate, steamy and hot. All of the previous story line characters, including the Gallagher family, play secondary and supporting roles throughout the story. Family matriarch Angela Gallagher begins to show signs of slowing down; and their father continues to cause too much stress and conflict within the family. We are introduced to arson investigator Josh Bailey who has yet to show his true colors. The world building continues to focus on a series of arson fires in the small town of Wildwood, California. The Gallagher brothers are all members of law enforcement or firefighters and play a significant role in the town’s protection and safety. Lane is a man who hides his feelings for Delilah at all times. SMOLDER is an engaging and heartwarming read. The premise is entertaining; the characters are passionate; the romance is a slow build to a happily ever after. Karen Erickson adds another hopeful dimension to her Wildwood Series.

I am a huge fan of Monica Murphy, aka Karen so I knew I would love this book and of course I was right. Delilah has been in love with Lane for years but he has been fighting his attraction for her because he believes she deserves better, we watch as Lane comes to realize that he is good enough and that he won't make the same mistakes as his father did. I received an arc from Edelweiss in exchange for an honest review.

Delilah has had a thing for Lane for as long as she can remember even though she dated his younger brother in high school. Lane has always felt a spark for Dee but would not cross that line because his brother was there first and he did not feel he deserved anyone because of the example of his parents. These two were made for each other and fit so perfectly it was a wonder Delilah didn't smack him up side the head to get him to wake up. It was fun to watch them circle each other and the ultimate fall. **Received a copy of this from the publisher in exchange for an honest review**

Mixed feelings on this one. It's as expected a wonderfully crafted story with great characters. There's plenty of steamy sexy times and chemistry between Lane and Delilah that is off the charts. I've fallen in love with Wildwood and the Gallagher men and perhaps my expectations were too high for this one. Lane Gallagher is deliciously yummy but I found his reason for never acting on his attraction to Delilah a bit juvenile. The fact that she once dated his brother, way back in high school, may have been a valid reason not to date then but as the years passed a simple conversation with the brother could have cleared his way to her. Luckily Delilah has had enough of waiting for him! A very good read I just wish it had a bit more bite to it! Still it's a book I would recommend.

I love Lane and Delilah in Ignite (Book One in the Wildwood series). So I knew Lane and Delilah's story Smolder was going to be a must read for me. Delilah is a woman I can admire. She's strong, opinionated, feisty, and not scared to go after what she wants—and what she wants is the oldest Gallagher brother, Lane. Delilah has desired to have Lane since high school, but the man flat-out ran from her, and that infuriated her. Lane is straight-up ignorant when it comes to his feelings for Delilah he also stubborn, arrogant, ridiculous, elusive…yet he’s sexy, gorgeous and sweet man. Yes, sweet. Delilah loathes his sweet side; she wanted to hate Lane, because the man makes her a frustrated mess of a woman, and besides, he's the only man that has ever given her the feeling of butterflies in her stomach. Yes, Lane, the irritating, sexy man is the real deal for Delilah, and she’s been chasing him for years to no avail. Delilah is at her whit’s end, and she’s tired of waiting. She’s fixing to take matters into her own hands, since the stubborn man can't seem to man-up and admit his feelings for her. Lane has wanted Delilah for years. She's beautiful, sweet, funny, smart, hotheaded, impulsive and sexy as all get-out. Lane has it bad for Delilah, but he's scared—sacred of becoming like his father. Lane knows he and Delilah weren't meant for each other. Not after the example his parents set for him as a kid when it came to relationships, so why couldn't Delilah see that? Lane only has one problem: he can’t stay away from the woman. He needs to stay away from the beautiful, sexy Delilah, but his own heart is betraying him as the woman destroys his defenses. Lane and Delilah are hilarious together. Unlike typical romance novel style, their roles are reversed. Delilah is the aggressor and Lane is the one playing hard to get. The chase between Lane and Delilah sets this story on fire. Smolder is one scorching-hot romance. I recommend as a must read.

I have been looking forward to Delilah and Lane's romance since introduced to them in Ignite. Was anxious to see where all that kinetic energy would lead. Smolder was on my to be read list the minute I found out about it. Finally the answers were within my reach. Would Lane and Delilah give in to temptation? What's standing in the way? All that frustration had to lead somewhere. I am disappointed to say that for me the obsession fizzled quickly. Lane still couldn't make up his mind and though he eventually confronted his feelings of wariness, as more of his backstory was revealed it came too little to late. Like a song stuck on repeat is how Smolder read to me. There were some heated moments but in the end it fell short.
