Editorial Reviews

VOYA - Liz Sundermann
Adne is having horrifying nightmares. Logan is certain there must be a way to regain his power. Sarah cannot handle the loss of her son. After the War of All Against All, the Rift is closed and the Searchers, Keepers, and Guardians are all wondering what they will do next. But things are far from resolved. Bosque Mar has secret ties to individuals in all of the factions, and he will stop at nothing to manipulate them into re-opening the Rift so that he may resume his existence on Earth. New alliances are forged and old relationships are strained as the Harbinger exploits those who remain sentient; even death is not a guarantee of escape from his machinations. This first novel in the third Nightshade series picks up shortly after the events of Bloodrose (Philomel, 2012). The pacing is compelling and readers will turn the pages anxiously to discover how the narratives of previously minor characters come together. This book will delight already ensnared Cremer fans, but readers will need to have read all of the previously written Nightshade books in order to understand this one. Libraries with copies of the other titles will want to have this one available as well. Reviewer: Liz Sundermann

This new Nightshade sequel takes up the action after the close of the first trilogy, when the wolf Guardians finally won their epic battle to banish evil Bosque Mar into the Nether. Now, Bosque wants to come back. By playing on the emotions of Ren's sister, Adne, now romantically entwined with Connor, Logan manages to infiltrate the Searchers at their headquarters, Rowan Estate. Thinking the war is over, the Searchers let their guards down until events finally compel them to see that another battle looms. By that time, much has been done against them, and there's a new war that should provide many more sequels for happy fans. Cremer, as always, keeps the narrative moving along briskly, but the focus here is more on magic than suspense. The wolves, including former protagonist Calla, remain wolves, never to return to human form. Instead, the Weavers, who create magical portals, and the fighters such as Connor appear to be taking center stage. Much intrigue results when the evil Logan dupes major Searcher figures into helping him. Those new to the series would be well-advised to read the first trilogy before beginning this book, as the history is so complicated and the characters so numerous that readers need a good background to get a grip on the plot. Plenty of suspense sets the stage for continuing this hit series. (Paranormal suspense. 12 & up)

    More books?

I love this series, but I hope there are more books because there seems to be more to Rise, and this series could take off in many directions.

    Not to be missed!

at least for me, it's been too long coming! I hope the next one in the series is soon, I have loved all the books so far, the only problem for me was that I had forgotten so much of the original story it took me a bit to catch up. Like with any worthwhile series, the waiting is the hardest part!!
