Part of the "Happy Snappy Books" series, this book is described on its cover as "Noisy Pop-Up Fun—With Fun Festive Sounds." Because the large, simple but colorful pictures spring out as each page is turned, children are drawn to this book and it is easy to share with a group. On a third of the left hand page, there are four insets with smaller pictures that appear in the larger scene that crosses the gutter with its huge pop-up feature. Children may locate the small images on the larger picture and read the names of things like snowman, scarf, present, bell, sleigh, chimney, holly, and other seasonal words. The first pop-up of woodland creatures building a jolly snowman is accompanied by a short bit of digitized Jingle Bells. The sound of sleigh bells goes with the scene of Santa's sleigh and reindeer. One hears a lot of "ho, ho, ho" as Santa pops out of the chimney. The Christmas tree page features the sound of Christmas bells. The last double spread shows carolers out in the village, and we hear "We Wish You a Merry Christmas." Needless to say, this will be a hit with the little ones. Parents and care givers may not wish to hear the music over and over. The music is battery powered and the battery can be removed and/or replaced. Meet the Author

Derek Matthews was born in 1950 and studied Graphic Design at the Kingston School of Art, now Kingston University. Derek's career has varied greatly, with the emphasis always being heavily on creative design. He has worked as a package designer, graphic designer, and an artist for an animation studio. In 1977 he became a freelance illustrator. His clients have included The Automobile Association, British Airways, The Sunday Times, the Food & Drink Federation, Talking Pages and Coca-Cola.

    Wonderful book for small children

    I purchased this for my 1 year old grandson. He loved the interactive pages and the music. A great purchase for a small child.
