PLANT OF ATTACK

Someone orders a black rose for Abby’s old law school nemesis, Professor “Snapdragon” Puffer. But her plans for a speedy delivery are foiled when he catches her putting the bloom on his desk and sends it straight into the trash. Abby flees in terror, only to run smack into Carson Reed, the professor who recently had her arrested at an animal rights protest. After a biting exchange, Abby storms out of the building. But if there’s anything she can’t stand, it’s injustice and bullies. So, even though she knows bad luck comes in threes, she ignores the advice of her sometimes boyfriend, hunk-a-licious Marco Salvare, and heads back in to retrieve her dignity and her flower—only to find the rose now decorating a dead professor, and herself the prime suspect....

Best in the series so far...

Abby Knight is back and once again finds herself involved in a murder investigation, as the number one suspect. She innocently delievers a rose to an old law school professor which leads to a confrontation between the two. Old feelings rush to the surface during their exchange and Abby runs out of his office. When she reaches her car, she realizes she's not a law student anymore and her former professor did not have the right to speak to her as such. She pulls herself together and decides to get her flower back. When she returns to his office, she discovers a dead body and soon finds herself at the top of the police suspect list.

Much of the book is spent with Abby in disguise trying to find the real killer. There's a sub-plot of animal kidnapping that eventually ties into the murder investigation. Abby's cousin, Jillian, makes another appearance when she returns from her honeymoon, only to bring drama with her. Overall I thought Snipped in the Bud is the best in the series so far.

    Fun read

This is the fourth book in the Flower Shop mysteries by kate Collins. I have enjoyed all of these books and they seemed to be getting better as we go along.

The character development for the main characters is expanded with each book so that it is as if you were getting to know the characters as real people. At the same time, the previous stories of the series are referenced in such a way that if you missed one of the previous books, you can still carry on without the details of that story.
The plotline was entertaining as well as effectively planned and holds the readers interest as well as building a bit of suspense to force you forward in the story.
Can't wait to open the next book!

    Murder of a professor

Abby Knight, owner of Bloomers flower shop, receives an order for one perfect black funeral rose to be delivered to her most hated professor from her law school years, 'Snapdragon' Puffer. She decides to face her fears and deliver the flower herself. After she almost runs him over with her car, she tries to sneak in to deliver the flower and is caught riffling his desk. Puffer is known for breaking pencils and throwing them at students. She was imitating him when he catches her. She flees. Then she runs into Professor Carson Reed. She had been arrested for protesting in front of Dermacol Labs that performs test on animals. He's involved with the lab. He taunts her, and she yells harsh words back before leaving. She decided to return to Puffer's office to retrieve the flower he threw in the trash. What she finds is Professor Reed dead in Puffer's chair, killed with a pencil wound. Her fingerprints were all over the murder weapon. The town decides she's guilty and begins boycotting her shop, and the press is after her. She tries to sneak around unseen to figure out who killed the professor. In the meantime, there is a pet stealing ring operating in town, and she gets involved in that investigation as well. Abby Knight is awesome. I really like reading these books. I just hate that I like them so much I read them too fast and have to wait a whole year for another one to publish! I love the flower shop setting. Plus the sexual tension between Abby and Marco keeps things hot! This is a fabulous cozy mystery series and I highly recommend it and this book.
