Editorial Reviews
Barnes & Noble - Steve Futterman
German-based tenor saxophonist Claus Koch is a player deserving wider international recognition. Utilizing an attractive tone, Koch finds a middle ground between swing and bop -- with stronger leanings to the former, it must be said -- making him an improviser of interest. On Snooking, he employs a very tight quintet featuring the imaginative pianist Claus Raible, whose "Professor Bradipo" stands out as a compositional highlight, and the fluent trumpeter Ralf Hesse. Energetic and affable in mood, the quintet glides through a program of mainstream jazz that stays within accepted boundaries but always makes the most of them.
