Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Shelly McCoy
Part of the "For Fun!" series, this book covers an activity that intrigues most of us who enjoy the water—snorkeling. The short chapters about what you might see while snorkeling, what equipment is needed, and more feature vibrant pictures, colorful graphics, and short bits of information to create an interesting read. Students could use this book as a basis for larger research in a health/fitness curriculum, since there are chapters on the rules and gear, or in biology and marine science, since there are chapters on the Great Barrier Reef and marine life conservation. History is also touched on by mentioning ocean pioneer Jacques Cousteau. Even non-swimmers will be interested in reading about the unique coral, fish, and a certain mystery in the ocean. Snorkeling is a great way to see eighty percent of all life on earth, but if readers are not able to try it now, reading about it is still a satisfying experience. Reviewer: Shelly McCoy
