Overview

When Noah Wesley heard the faint sound outside the door of his remote Alaskan mountain cabin during a violent nighttime blizzard, it was no less than the voice of God that urged him to take a closer look, soon to discover his snow angel.

Unconscious and more than half frozen to death, her name, as Noah would later learn after boldly saving her life, was Elizabeth, a beautiful young woman, fragile yet fierce, and intent on discovering gold like so many others in that region during the late 1800s.

But why Elizabeth was so drawn to the gold, and why she would chase it even through a pounding storm that no man would dare face, was a secret to be shared with no one else, not even at the inviation of Noah's deep blue trusting eyes.

First time novelist Jamie Carie pens a can't-put-down debut in Snow Angel, a masterfully romantic story wherein cold and lonely hearts risk everything to be forever warmed.

Alaska, 1897

Was that a light? A flicker . . . a light maybe . . . yes . . . yes. The swirling mass of white shifted long enough to glimpse . . . something.

Light . . . life, yes, choose light-life.

She blinked rapidly, trying to see, trying to blink past the thick, wet veil, her heart pounding with hope and then fear that it was only a blind man’s dream. She saw it again, wavering yet strong, and something else—something solid and sure and huge surrounding it. A house. With sudden energy she plunged forward toward the yellow glow. She couldn’t feel her feet any longer, nor her legs or hands either, but salvation was just steps away. Just a few more steps away.

She stumbled in her hurry, falling into a heap, quickly becoming buried half-alive. She tried to stand, drowning in snow, thinking her arms and legs were floundering but seeing that they were just lying there, realizing in a daze that her knees wouldn’t bend, that her legs had turned to wooden posts no longer acknowledging the authority of her brain.

Get up! Everything inside her wailed it. Her throat worked with the effort to scream it aloud, making incoherent sounds of distress, a desperate, discordant harmony in what now appeared a tragedy. Panic set in. She had to concentrate. She had to make her sluggish brain command her legs to push her up. She struggled, clawed, and climbed, digging herself in deeper, trying to stand, but her legs were unable to support her weight. Get up!

    Excellent choice read!

From the beginning I was hooked. I loved the vivid imagery, intrigue and emotion that pulled me into the story when I first picked it up. I especially could feel Noah's feelings for Elizabeth, and I was really drawn in by the relationship between the two; even if I did get a little frustrated with Elizabeth for 'acting noble' a couple times. :) Noah tries to show her that she is forgiven, and that he loves her, no matter what, but Elizabeth seems to think that she's all wrong for him, that he deserves better- hence her 'noble acts'. Considering what she's been through, I suppose it only makes sense that she be reluctant to open up to anyone, much less someone she thinks deserves better than her, but the romance is sweet nonetheless.
This is the first book I've picked up by Jamie Carie, and I can't believe I missed her before! I plan to buy many more books by this author- quickly becoming a favorite of mine :)
If you enjoy romance, and intrigue you shan't be disappointed.

    Historical Romance

To summarize Snow Angel, by Jamie Carie in one word- intense. This book is Jamie Carie¿s debut novel and she has another to be released this April. She resides with her husband and three children in Indianapolis , Indiana .

In an Alaskan cabin, during a brutal blizzard, Noah Wesley, believes he hears God Himself urging him to open the door. There he finds Elizabeth , barely clinging to life and half frozen, unconscious on his very doorstep. She keeps her horrid past of her adoptive parents, a rape, and the man who has been chasing her clear across the country hidden from everyone, claiming she was only after one thing- gold. But Elizabeth was swiftly becoming much more than a damsel in distress to Noah. He was learning, the hard way, that she was far from it, she was the woman he dared to love. If only she¿d stay still long enough.

Taking place mostly in 1897, during the famous gold rush, this historical romance charges you on a never-ending roller coaster of emotions. Opening with a prologue of Elizabeth ¿s birth mother, Jane, you are forced to swipe away tears at the torrent of pain and sadness. Dropped immediately into the storm where Noah found Elizabeth , and on to the adventure later in the book, you find yourself at the edge of your seat, overcome with heart pounding tension. The snippets of her past are carefully dropped, along with letters to her birth mother from the private investigator she hired, adding fuel to the fire. And then, of course, there¿s the love between them¿ never quite relaying what they covet, what they really feel. It breaks your heart over and over again.

The only real criticism I have for this book is that the author, for future books, should be a bit more careful in phrasing and word choices. In historical fiction, it is always best to try, whenever possible, to incorporate dialog and phrasing to days of yore- as they would have then. There really wasn¿t much to draw me to the present, but I feel it would only aid in a more engaging view of the times and people to have more of it there.

I¿m not entirely sure what Jamie Carie did before she began writing novels, but I think it¿s safe to say she can quit her day job. She masterfully portrayed these characters in a light, to which, make them very believable in the reader¿s eyes. The plot flowed well, and this was immensely difficult to put down. It was a pleasure to learn a bit of history about the gold rush, as seen through the characters, and about the Alaskan terrain. This was an evocative and poignant tale, one I won¿t soon forget.

    ¿divine¿ matchmaking romance

In 1897 in an isolated section of the Alaskan territory, Noah Wesley stays warm in his heated cabin while a blizzard rages outside. However, he soon hears a noise at his door that he initially thinks is his imagination of being alone and then considers a wild animal. He cautiously takes a look outside encouraged by what he assumes is the voice of God speaking inside his head. He is stunned to find an unconscious half frozen female angel who he fears if she survives the weather might still suffer frostbite. He takes Elizabeth into his home, but soon believes this brittle woman will try anything as she asks Noah to take her to the gold fields so she can search for gold. Still he feels the fierce climate will send her scurrying to the lower Forty-eight while trying to convince to give up on the gold fever. Elizabeth rejects his contention that she is to delicate to survive the wilderness while hiding her real obsession for wanting to go to the gold fields from him though she is falling in love with this man whom she trusts with her life but not her objective at the same time someone searches for her as they have for over two decades. --- The ¿divine¿ matchmaking romance between Noah and Elizabeth and the mystery subplot enhance a terrific look at Alaska during the frantic gold rush days of the late nineteenth century. SNOW ANGEL provides a vivid stark look at the wintry climate in which the weather is lethal for the unprepared. The lead couple is a strong pairing as he knows she is god sent to him and she loves and trusts him with her life and everything else except her reason for needing to go to the gold fields. Jamie Carie¿s debut is a wonderfully descriptive historical tale as the audience will wear woolen hats and gloves (in September) while reading this book. --- Harriet Klausner

    A reviewer

I highly suggest getting this book. It is an adventure/romance that draws you in from the beginning and won't let you put it down. The characters are well developed and you end up really caring what happens to everyone in the book. It had just the right amount of romance, no smutty sex scenes I detest. The adventure scenes are nail biting and thankfully, the scenery descriptions are perfect - I don't care for too much, and she gives just enough so I feel like I'm there. I would have never guessed this was Jamie's first book if I hadn't read it at her website. She has a promising career as an author ahead of her!
