Snow Falling on Cedars

Editorial Reviews

All Music Guide - Heather Phares
The soundtrack to Scott Hicks' 1999 film Snow Falling on Cedars features a score by James Newton Howard, who also composed music for The Sixth Sense and My Best Friend's Wedding. His music for this film reflects its compelling, emotional story, which is based on David Guterson's novel about a journalist covering the murder trial of a Japanese-American man married to his first love.

    David Arkentstone told me

I bought this album because I read a review on David Arkentstone (who's music I like), he mentioned that his favorite album was Snow Falling on Cedars. James Newton Howard's music transcends the myopia of today's music writers. This score has the ability to speak to the sadness. Such range of emotion is not often heard in a soundtrack. I must admit at my first listening I didn't care for it but there were pieces within it that I wanted to hear again. So, now, I can't put it down. I go back to this score again and again. Give it more than one listen and it may mesmerize you, too.
