Editorial Reviews

Children's Literature - Emily Hearn
A toddlers' rendition of Snow White is presented in one to three words per spread in this board book from "Les Petits Fairytales." For young children familiar with a movie adaptation or a longer story, this is a good vehicle for promoting vocabulary, comprehension, and sequencing skills as they retell the tale with the pictures as prompts. Besides the main characters and setting, there are other pictures within the spread to stimulate use of vocabulary for younger toddlers not yet ready for a more complex story. The simple pictures in the colorful uncluttered spreads will provide children with opportunities to use their words to interpret the pictures and identify the characters and their facial expressions. Little girls especially will appreciate the series because it includes familiar princesses. Other board books with simple text and illustrations that younger children may enjoy are Byron Barton's Three Bears, The Wee Little Woman, and The Little Red Hen. Reviewer: Emily Hearn
