Editorial Reviews

School Library Journal - School Library Journal
Gr 4-6In this significant revision of the 1989 title, the author discusses history, equipment, etiquette, technique, and injury-avoidance behavior for this fast-growing sport. Highlighted sections that deal with terminology and different types of snowboards are new to this edition and should prove useful to both report writers and beginning practitioners. A strong chapter on etiquette reminds readers that snowboarding has had a long and difficult road to acceptance and that self-monitoring of behavior is necessary if snowboarders want to continue to be welcomed on the slopes. Discussion of technique is fairly rudimentary but does not include the advice that participation in the sport should be preceded by a session with a qualified instructor. Well-reproduced, full-color photographs, listings of organizations, magazines, books, and Internet resources round out this solid effort that is comparable to any number of recently published instructional books on the subject for this age group.Richard Luzer, Fair Haven Union High School, VT
