Meet the Author


Kenneth Libbrecht is the author of The Snowflake, The Art of the Snowflake, and our other snow-crystal titles. He was raised in North Dakota and educated at Caltech and Princeton, receiving his Ph.D. in physics in 1984. He subsequently joined the faculty at Caltech, where he is currently professor of physics and head of the physics department. Dr. Libbrecht has published numerous articles on a range of scientific topics, including the free oscillations of the sun and stars, ultra-cold atomic gases, the detection of gravitational radiation, and the mechanics of crystal growth. He resides in Pasadena, CA, with his wife and two children.

    Exquisite book

    This book captures the imagination. How anyone could have the patience to photograph snowflakes as they are portrayed is amazing. Great book to just have sitting around and leaf through at your leisure!

    Absolutely gorgeous...

    As a lover of snow, and winter in general, it was great to see this book, which includes beautifully detailed photos of real snowflakes along with thoughts about snow...what a beautiful item to add to any collection!

    Snowflakes and Math

    I am using this book to bring the understanding of symmetry and Mandelbrot to the classroom. The pictures are terrific and the technology is amazing.
