Meet the Author

Sandra Boynton
Sandra Boynton
Cartoonist/author Sandra Boynton infuses her books with a sense of joy, silliness, and -- well, lots of farm animals. With her fun board books, the woman famous for the adults' mantra "Don't Let the Turkeys Get You Down" has become a natural favorite for toddlers.

Biography

In the 1980s, it was hard to enter a gift shop without seeing Sandra Boynton's name. Her humorous pen-and-watercolor cartoons of hippos, ewes, and her famous turkeys (you know, symbolizing the human ones in life who can get you down) were emblazoned on cards, mugs, stickers, stationery...and of course, her wonderful, wacky books, the first of which was 1979's Hippos Go Berserk! .

Boynton began her career as a greeting card illustrator with aspirations of theater directing; but having a family changed her focus, and she began devoting herself full-time to art. Her board books, filled with goofy animal illustrations and rhyming verse, are toddler staples. But their appeal to adults is undeniable, and she has also written a number of humor books for the general public.

Given the rhythmic, buoyant style of her writing, it was only natural that Boynton would become involved in companion music to her books. From the '90s on, several of her titles included accompanying CDs, culminating in the 2002 release of Philadelphia Chickens, a CD-book extravaganza written with composer Michael Ford and featuring musical performances by several high-profile stars.

Who knows what lies ahead for this irrepressible force of nature? If there's one thing Sandra Boynton has proved in the course of her remarkably diverse career, it's that she's not lost her capacity to surprise us. (Thank heavens!)

    Daughter loves it

We loved this book to pieces, literally, before she turned two. Now that it is on the Nook, we won't have that problem anymore. Snuggle Puppy is a sweet story of a mother dog telling her puppy how much she loves him/her.

The only bad thing is that the author talks throughout, rather than sings the story. So, I used the record option in order to sing the lyrics to my own snuggle puppy. We are both happy with it.

Highly recommended for Valentines Day or anytime at all. Very cute!

    LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!

My daughter loves Sandra Boynton books and this is one of the cutest we have bought! I think we almost have her entire collection of these easy to read books that read in such a sing-song manner that my daughter is instantly interested! I would recommend to anyone who wants to have some fun while reading, it's great to come up with little tunes to read to to make it more song like :)

    She needs to sing it

I love this book and so does my son! However i did not like the author reading it in the least bit. It was boring and weird sounding. The volume was very low too. It did not meet my expectation at all!

A great one kids will want to read again and again.

I have enjoyed this book with both my girls and buy it for new moms and dads. It is a catchy book, that the kids want to reread and you won't mind either. Any Sandra Boynton book is a great read!

Snuggle Puppy a little love song

My grandson loves this book. He was checking it out of the childrens library but now it's on his shelf and he reads it every night with several other books and his mommy and daddy. It's totally age appropriate and such a cute book, you can sing the words to a little tune or you can just read them. Either way it comes out great for the kid.

Another Great One From Sandra Boynton

I am a big fan of Sandra Boynton books, and Snuggle Puppy is as good as any of her other books that I've read to my children. I bought this for my older child who was two at the time. We read it several times and then made up our own notes and song to the words. When my younger child was born, we sang the words to her as we turned the pages. The illustrations are sweet and loving. The message including "I love what you are, I love what you do..." is one that all children should hear and is good for self esteem. This is quickly becoming a favorite of our second child as she enters toddlerhood. I would recommend this book to read to children ages 6 months to age 3.

    I Also Recommend:

The best "I love you" book

This book is wonderful and I give it to every child that I buy presents for - it is so sweet and loving and just beautiful. I love all this author's books - they are all so good for kids and fun for parents, grandparents, aunts, uncles and everyone - to read to their kids.
